After having my Congress interview two days ago, I received an email saying that the interview board felt strongly about me putting usafa as a preference although I only had usna as an only preference for a nomination.Their reason behind this was that they said I would be a strong candidate for usafa. Has anyone had this happen to them?, and could this be a good or a bad thing?. In the reply email I told them that I am indifferent in putting usafa as a second preference as long as it doesn't affect me getting a usna nom. The Congress office then told me that putting usafa as a second preference will not affect me getting a usna nom, since they said I could obtain multiple noms from one office and they will try their best to give me a nom to my first preference (usna).

What it sounds like they're saying to me is this:

We have some openings for nominations to USAFA and we think you're a good fit. Are you interested???

This is NOT a bad thing!

USAFA '83

I did not apply to usafa yet, but I accepted their consideration of putting usafa as my second choice on my congressional application.

Remember, MOCs are trying to make as many constituents as possible happy. If they can give the USNA slot to someone else (who doesn't want USAFA) and can give you the USAFA slot and keep you happy, it's a win-win in their book.

You can say, "no" and keep USNA as your choice. The up-side is they may give you the USNA nom and find someone else to take the USAFA nom. The down-side is you may get no nom.

Guess you've got to ask yourself where your heart lies. Are you interested in USAFA? The fact the MOC Committee thinks you're a good fit doesn't necessarily mean that you are or that you want to attend USAFA or be a USAF officer.

Also, the fact you have a nom to USAFA doesn't mean you'll be accepted. It's also super-competitive. You also have to apply, which means getting a lot of stuff done b/t now and their deadline (Jan. 31?).

Do some research; think it through. But if you still really want USNA, I'd hold my ground.

go with your heart

best thing is to go with your heart. You are the person who has to live the decision. If you do the USAFA application, remember you have much of the work already done due to the USNA app. you completed. Go luck to you.

I have USNA as my choice, since its the only academy I would like to attend. The board wanted to put USAFA as my second choice/backup, since they felt that I would be competitive for USAFA. I was assured that this placement would not affect my USNA nom chances since I could receive multiple noms. So when I accepted their consideration I informed them that I wanted all of their consideration of giving me a nom to USNA. I have always wanted to be a SWO, so USNA is the one and only school for me.

I actually denied their offer and kept usna as my only choice. I did this because I am not really interested in being a USAF officer and someone that is interested in thatbranch could use the nomination.

Your a good man of integrity SpikeGamer! Best of luck to you with Navy.

The USAFA nom was a guarantee but the USNA nom is not since I live in MD and 60-70% of the yearly nom requests go to USNA. I do not know what decisions to expect from the congressional offices so I’m anxious to find out whether or not I received a nomination to USNA.

Would you mind telling us what district are you in?

I know I haven't posted on this thread for a while but at the end it all worked out in my favor. This is because I received a nomination to USNA, and I got an LOA from USNA.

This gave me goosebumps to read your decision. You are very mature and decisive, which will payoff down the road.

Best to you in the Navy.
