I have recently been awarded an AROTC scholarship. I haven't received my official winner's letter specifying the date of my DoDMERB, but I have heard that this exam often disqualifies people, which worries me.

What usually goes wrong to disqualify people? Past injuries? Height/weight? Other variables

Would past knee surgery be a disqualifying factor? I've been playing football and wrestling for 3 years since the surgery with no issues.

If anybody has answers to these questions or any other information it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Congratulations on the AROTC scholarship - they seem to be increasingly tough to win.

Regarding DoDMERB disqualifications, nobody here can answer your questions. If you scroll back through the DoDMERB thread you'll see a panoply of causes of disqualification. You need to remember that getting a DQ does not necessarily terminate your scholarship. Many people have had DQs, even multiple DQs, yet gone on to retain the scholarships.

If you want to diagnose yourself, here's a link to the Army Standards of Medical Fitness, which I believe to be current. Chapter 2 is relevant to ROTC.

I'd guess for a knee surgery they're going to want to see all Pre and post-operation paperwork from your doctor?

Re knee surgery. Our son had knee surgery for a torn meniscus shortly after the 2nd board met last year. He was awarded a 4 year scholarship. We went through the DODMERB remedial process. It was EASY. We secured all paperwork relating to the surgery and PT. I believe there was a 3 month wait until he could be cleared by the DOD. After that he was qualified. No problems. It depends on the surgery (torn meniscus, torn ACL, etc.).
