We are wanting to get our rentals booked next year for I-Day and PPW. So far, I see that I-Day is June 26, 2014. When would the PPW take place? August 8-10??

I think you may be wrong about the dates, the cal. for 2018 are posted and they have "I" Day and July 1, run that out 6 weeks for PPW. I'm going to look again. Could someone please add in.

Actually, DS and I were looking at this last week. On the USNA website it shows two different dates, 26JUN and 01JUL, depending on where you look.

Glad I am not the only one that likes to plan ahead!
 
Maybe . . .

. . . part of the site is still showing I-Day info for the class of 2017.

Under I-Day it shows 26JUN -27JUL and then further clarifies that as I-Day minus 1 and I-Day. That would have been the correct dates for this past summer.

The Academic Calendar does show 01JUL.

I'm just guessing here.

DS has the LOA and found out last week he got a senatorial NOM. Just waiting on the slate to be submitted and the BFE to arrive.
 
Yes. I see where the PDF calendar has July 1st and the Anchor Dates calendar has Jun 26th. So, July 1st it is.
 
Krhern, Here's a suggestion: make reservations from 24June-02July (or whatever block of time that suits you,) typically a hotels cancellation policy is 24-72 hrs prior to check-in. Then, when you're positive which dates you'll need keep those and cancel the rest.
 
just a tip...

for I day we got a hotel which was good.

If I could do PPW over I would have rented a house-closer to campus.-PPW is ALOT of walking-crazy amount of walking. some things are very very very early in the morning and then there is also returning them at midnight. Im very tight fisted with money-(ok cheap!!) but in this case it would have been worth it to have a close by house instead for a couple of extra hundred dollars.

In regards to renting a house for PPW , is that something that is readily available and do you have any contact info for that? I have a loarge family and that might be a better option for us rather than getting 2 hotel rooms.

for PPW we got two rooms at the Lowes and though it was ok, a house rental would have gone better. The nice, close by, reasonably priced rentals seemed to go fast. If you change your mind though or plans change it is extremely easy to find someone to take your rental for you. Soon you will get placed on a list serve by the plebe parent moderator who will answer every specific detail of every question (she is great!) you can possibly have. If you end up getting a house rental that you dont want you will be able to post it on the listserve and someone will snap it up immediately.

(like myself) there were alot of "late to the party" people who at the last second tried to get houses and couldn't find any.

The dates will be somewhere from July 1-4. All those dates are subject to change. Lots of things could happen. Gov shutdown? Could happen. Those are the dates they will try to make, no guarantees though. Naps and Priors will be maybe a week earlier.
 
As a government employee - don't judge - that time of year is not the time that a shutdown would happen. Federal fiscal year is from Oct 1 - Sept 30.

But, now that I typed it, it could happen :rolleyes:

jj18 - I am not certain, but my best guess is Aug. 14 - 17? If I Day is indeed July 1, then 6 weeks later would be about the 14? I am just going off of last years PPW calendar. It looks like you do not get to meet your mid until noon on the Friday, so that would be the 15th and then PPW ends late afternoon on the Sunday which would be the 17th? Anyone else want to chime in on if this sounds about right? :smile:

It's not as difficult to get a hotel room during Plebe Parents Weekend as people think.

Do you want to save serious cash? Learn how to use Priceline or Hotwire or any of the online hotel reservation sites that are available. We used them exclusively during the 4 years our sons attended the Naval Academy and paid FAR less than the walk-up rates. In fact, we got so experienced at it that we could almost predict the hotel that it would assign us.

Being within walking distance of the Naval Academy is overrated (and expensive). If you have a car, it is completely unnecessary. I much prefer staying at any of the hotels out near the Annapolis Mall. There's more to do and it's very convenient to many restaurants. Plus, it only takes you 15 minutes (at the most) to drive onto the Yard.

We routinely stayed at the Doubletree, Holiday Inn Express, Springhill Suites and the Sheraton - all of which are in this area and are 3 star (or better) hotels. The Best Western is a 2.5-star hotel and is more than adequate. It even has a FREE hot breakfast. I'll bet you could go to Priceline and place a bid for $60 and have a chance of getting the Best Western. During non-peak times we have got the Best Western for as low as $44.

If you don't mind a little mystery in your life about which hotel, exactly, in which you'll stay, the online sites are a great way to save a TON of money. Really, what do you care if you stay at the Doubletree or the Sheraton? We never did.

I had a 30-yr reunion back in 2009. The hotel designated for the reunion was the Westin on West Street. They were asking around $250/night. I went to Hotwire and got the Loew's (another 4-star hotel) for $90/night. These hotels are right next to each other! And this was during a peak period and a football weekend. We could've paid even less if we stayed out near the Annapolis Mall area, but we wanted to be close to the reunion activities and were willing to pay a little extra.

Plus, you have to PAY for parking at most of the downtown Annapolis hotels. It's pricey - almost $20/day. If you ask me, staying at a downtown hotel is a pain in the a$$. The "convenience" of being close to the Yard is not worth it, in my opinion.

With Priceline, you can designate the area. For Annapolis, you will have two choices; "Annapolis" or "Downtown Annapolis". "Annapolis" will be out by the mall.

I would bookmark these pages for future reference. This info has been the same for the past 2 incoming classes, so it can give you a hint as to what may come. But remember, it is not official until USNA says it is. These pages got updated in the spring the last 2 years. Cheers.
