Hey guys, I am a Sophomore at the biggest public high school in the state. I would like to know if there is anything I need to improve on:

Academics:
GPA= 3.8 unweighted, 4.2 weighted
Just took the PSAT, have not received my scores yet.
On my 4th year of Chinese, planning to take AP Chinese my senior year
In my school's Leadership class (we organize all of the school events)
Staff Writer for the school newspaper, planning to be an editor next year or senior year

Sports:
Varsity XC, letter, possibility of being captain next year
Varsity Indoor Track
Varsity Outdoor Track

Leadership:
-8th grade: President of the National Junior Honor Society
-SGA member
-Vice President of my class (roughly 700 students)
-President of the Sophomore Honors Club
-Was chosen to travel to China for two weeks the summer of my rising freshman year for a summer bridge program sponsored by William and Mary
-Worked on an election campaign for the city councilman

Thanks guys. I also visited West Point over the summer, and absolutely loved it.

Looks like you are on the right track. Take the heaviest course load possible while maintaining good grades. Keep seeking leadership positions. I'm assuming you're a runner. Do not ignore your upper body. Work on pullups, pushup, situps. If your a long distance runner also work on speed. You'll need all that when its time for the physical tests. Also, take a look at the Academy web site as they have advice for things to do each class year. Good luck!

One thing i would add, is take the SAT or ACT now!! It wont hurt , and they will super score the tests.

If you are interested in Engineering then I'd also recommend looking into applying for the SAME Engineering camps that are held each summer at the Acadamies. My son attended the Air Force camp and loved it.

Thanks

Wow I never even thought about taking the SAT/ACT this early. I know should take both, but should I still be doing that this early? Also, I am very interested in engineering, and those camps sound like they're for me. One more thing, I am very interested in Governor's School, and my sister went to one for agriculture at Virginia Tech. My dad suggest I do the same, but I am worried that that will look very, random I guess, because agriculture has nothing to do with my current interests/activities. He said it won't hurt to go. Any advice? I really appreciate the feedback.

Early and Often....

Take the ACT/SAT early and often. It is common to plateau in your score about the 3rd or 4th time. This is when you'll need outside help from a program that specializes increasing scores.

You're on the right path taking a proactive attitude working on this early!!

Good Luck!!
