Hello All!

I'd love to meet some other class of '18 hopefuls so we can help each other out through this rather lengthy process!

-Blake

Hi, Blake! Another '18 hopeful here.

I just joined the forum today and would love to have another fellow USAFA applicant to talk to!

-Melissa

This thread excites me. Good luck to all of you this year! Let me know if you have any questions!

Hey Blake, here's another hopeful.
I live in Dallas Texas and have dreamed of going to the Air Force Academy and becoming a fighter pilot since I was six. Hopefully this dream will be fulfilled as with the others on this thread. Good Luck!

Tread lightly and don't post too much of your information on here! We don't want anyone who runs BCT to pick on us for posting here:thumb:

Another class of 2018 hopeful :)

I just got back from my dvp trip at USAFA. :) Anybody that wants to stay in touch can PM me or add me on Facebook. Hopefully some of us will actually be meeting each other in less than eight months. Good luck!!

Hey all, I'm a prospective candidate for the class of 2018 from Alaska. I also went on a Junior DVP trip like Lillian, but it was last year during February.

Bummer I didn't get to meet her, but I'm hoping that we'll all get to see each other at the Academy in June.

At what part of the application process are you guys?

I was able to get my application to the Academy in for Early Application, and have sent Nomination packets to all of my Senators, but haven't heard any news on those yet (probably won't for a while).

The Senior DVP trip was supposed to be in October, but got delayed because of the government shutdown. It's alright though..I'm just glad I got to go!

I have all my nomination packets turned in, and did a phone interview for one nomination application during my trip. I haven't heard back from either of my senators yet.

I'm still working on my essays and I have my CFA scheduled for this month.

But. About Alaska. I'm not from Alaska...but I'm part Alaskan Native. Haha. That's part of my diversity.

Sorry, haven't heard about this. Thought the Summer Seminar was the only option to visit?

Go to the admissions website. Go to outreach programs. Click on outreach events. Scroll down. You'll find information there.

The Diversity Visitation Program is free to attend..including airfare!! :)

I asked my ALO if I was qualified and he sent in an application for me.

Just out of curiosity, which squad did you visit?

It is also possible to do a day visit to Usafa and shadow a C4C for the day. My son did this after he got his appointment and it really helped him acclimate easier and reinforce that this was the right place for him. The cadet he shadowed even put on his shoulder boards on A day.

whats up guys follow me @zs3rnn on twitter if you wanna connect on there!

I was with the "Knights of 30". They were really welcoming and all around awesome, but then again, so are a lot of the cadets there. :thumb:

From my experience, juniors in the DVP program were actually kids who had applied to the Summer Seminar. DVP stands for "Diversity Visitation Program". Candidates interested the Summer Seminar who had especially "diverse" backgrounds (i.e. location, ethnicity, socioeconomic, etc.) were recommended by the admissions staff reviewing the applications to be in the DVP where they would be flown in for free, and get to (for lack of a better word) "job shadow" a cadet for half a week or so.

At least that's how I think it works for the February one, the October one may very well be open to application, and anyone living within close proximity of the Academy can schedule personal tours, as Usafamom2016 mentioned.

Personally though, the DVP was a God-send. Tickets from AK are expensive, and while my family was willing to send me, it was really nice that I didn't have to cause any financial strain on our budget. Thank God for the Falcon Foundation, they're the ones who sponsor it! :shake:
