DS just received a letter via candidate portal - what does this mean?

"We have received all your application information and the Admissions Committee has qualified your file. West Point has eliminated rolling admissions for this cycle. As such, all qualified applicants are placed on a National Waiting List until appointments are made. Most appointments will be tendered between 26 February and 1 May 2014.

You have demonstrated strong initiative and diligence in completing your file. Although qualified, you are still competing for admission and should continue to update your record with significant achievements in academic, leadership, and extracurricular and athletic activities. Do not forget to include standardized test scores or updated transcripts from your most recently completed academic semester. We will continue to add achievements to your file through the end of February 2014.

Although most offers of admission will be tendered before 1 May 2014, final selection from the waiting list may be made only a few days before the class enters.

Thank you for your continuing interest in West Point. Go Army!"

Admissible

The letter your DS received via his portal is the "standard" form letter sent out to all candidates that have changed from "competitive" status to "admissible" status. I am assuming your DS has a Presidential nomination since you appear to be retired military. The wait between now and the first wave of BFEs is brutal. Hang in there and BEST OF LUCK to your DS!

Congrats you are triple qualified! That's all that it means. Youu are now qualified to attend WP it just depends on if you are selected.

You are what is know as 3Qd -qualified academically, PT Test, and physical.
Now you need a nomination.
After you get a nomination you will be one of about 2,500-3,000 people that will be in that category. About 1,000-1,200 of these will get a formal offer to WP.
You are in great shape but there is a long way to go.

I am a little confused about the process/notification of becoming 3Qd. Is it an absolute that ALL candidates receive that letter once they have achieved the proper scores, and that without it there is no chance for an appointment? Or, is it like the LOE's and LOA's - some get them and some don't? DD's portal says that she is "Medically Qualified" and all her checks are green. She passed the CFA while at SLE, so I know that's done. Even though it is checked, there is no "Physically Qualified" notation. That leaves academics, which she was told at SLE is the strongest part of her file (with the possible exception of her 640 math SAT). Also, although her high school sent out letters of recommendation in addition to the SOE's, I don't see any evidence of them on the portal. Will they eventually show up under "Uploads?"

Thank you for any information you can share.

Same here. My DS is fully qualified including medical. The only thing left is a nomination which he just interviewed for. Many have posted stats with LOE's and from what I'm seeing he should be very competitive. Still not a word from USMA.

He didn't do a formal interview with his Liaison officer but after interviewing for the congressman one of the persons on the panel told him that he was his State coordinator and that he wouldn't need another interview.

He sent a letter to USMA to see if he was missing something and all they sent back was if the checkmarks are green then they have all they need.

Just seems like my DS must be missing something because everyone seems to be getting correspondence but he has had none.

Hutchdweller,

Not all applicants receive the 3Q'd letter. Doesn't mean they aren't 3Q'd, just depends if their RC in admissions sends them out or not. (It sure would be less confusing if they all followed the same procedure, but they just simply don't.) Hopefully your DD's file will be reviewed soon and will be notified of her status. The last few months of waiting is brutal on the whole family, if this is her heart's desire. Best of luck to your DD!

Thanks for the info My3Sons! Rocko, it's good to know we're not alone! Best of luck to your DS and please keep us updated.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the letters of recommendation showing up or not on the portal?

I believe my DS just uploaded the LOR files on the application page. Not sure if he did anything else but I don't believe so.

Good luck to your DD as well. Everyone who is applying is very bright/motivated so no matter what path they end up traveling I'm sure it will be a successful one.
