Hi -

What does it mean to be a cadet who is selected to be in the "regimental staff?"

Thanks.

Regimental Staff is the group of 20ish cadets that were selected to serve on a staff that is responsible for running and tracking day-to-day operations in a regiment (~1,100 cadets/regiment).

Generally, being selected for staff is a compliment, albeit an undesired compliment for some first-class cadets who would rather stay with their friends in their companies.

Does being part of the staff have any impact on branching or career opportunities?

Most people in Reg. Staff are in pretty good ranking anyways, so considering 80% of cadets got their first choice, branching wise, I think they'll get their desired branch. Career opportunities? I would think it would have a limited affect. I think militarily wise, it matters more on how you do as an officer than what you did while at West Point in determining promotion and so forth. But I have no experience with this, so take it with a grain of salt.
