CFA Question

Hello All,

I have been a long time follower as my DS navigates his way through the USNA application process. The last step of his application was the CFA which he completed on November 9th. It shows that it was received on the portal. I have 2 questions:

How would he know if he "passed" the CFA?

Everything is in for his application including congressman and senator nominations. I am not sure if they are principal nominations or not. Is there any time frame for notification as to admission status?

Your BGO can tell you if he passed. That's all the BGO can tell you though.

In some cases I've heard that the academy will request a re-do if he did not pass, assuming they think he has the potential to earn an appointment.

Remember the SAs may have different standards (ie minimums) for passing. My DS took the CFA, and passed for USNA but didn't pass the dreaded basketball throw for USMA. He was authorized to retake the CFA for USMA. He retook it, submitted his new scores which were greatly improved, and passed for USMA. Then he e-mailed his admissions counselor for USNA and asked if he could submit the new scores. The admissions counselor contacted West Point directly for the scores.

From the USNA website: Most candidates will be notified of their final status by April 15.

I guess what I was asking is if by April 15th means most with a complete application are not notified until April? To me by April 15th could mean anytime between when the application is complete and April 15th. I didn't know if anyone had insight as to common practice.

"The USNA uses a selection process known as 'rolling admissions'." As soon as all of your candidate packet forms are received, the Admissions Boards will determine your scholastic "whole person" qualification." (also from the USNA website)

So between now and April 15th is when the majority of candidates will be notified. If your DS has an LOA, it should be earlier rather than later.

"If you are found scholastically qualified but do not receive a Letter of Assurance, you will be competing for an Offer of Appointment from within your nominating sources. Approximately 2,000 candidates are found fully qualified (scholastic, medical, CFA, and have obtained a nomination) each year. Of that number, about 1,500 will receive appointments and approximately 1,200 become midshipmen. Most candidates will be notified of their final status by April 15."

MOC have until the end of January to submit their slates.
