Principal Nomination or not

So I live in Utah and got a call last week from Senator Mike Lees office saying I had been given a nomination. I got my letter today and it says: "I am pleased to give you my nomination to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point." Does this mean I am the principal nominee to USMA? I know someone got a letter from Mike Lee's office that said he was qualified for a nomination but not that he had received it. So we are both confused. Also as of right now both of our Portals don't show any nominations. Thanks for the help and insight!
 
They take time to process on the academies end so it might take a day or two. I don't see anything in the letter that would mean you are the principal nominee, as all nominations are "his" nominations. You can always call and ask though

Thats what I'm playing to do in the morning. I don't think it is, but the fact that our letters say different things on them makes me wonder if it is.
 
Just my 0.0198765 cents, but I would take your friends as the equivalent for the TWE from an SA or aka QNS (Qualified Not Selected)

I could see confusion if your friend got a nom, but no phone call. In that case, I would think you got the principal. However, the way I read your post was they did not get a nom. at all.

Remember an MOC can submit 10 names per slate, bur have 40, 50, 100 applicants. I am guessing they were number 11-??? in the pool.
 
Well he got a phone call but then that letter that said he was qualified, but not given one, the words he told me that were in his letter were no where in my letter
 
Also, my portal now says UT61, what does that mean? I know I have a nomination from one of Utah's senators but what do the numbers mean?

It means you have a nomination from a Utah Senator, which one is a matter of debate. See my reply to your same question in the West Point forum. I don't think it denotes principal or competitive in any way. You have to call their office for that information or it is specified in the letter you receive.

Most likely the 6 is a district number, and the 1 being the senators slot. Senators are allowed five slots at one academy, and they each can nominate 10 candidates to one slot. Did you get the answer to your question when you called today?

With a nom designation, a '6' after the state means it is a Senator nom.
The '1' or '2' after the '6' means Senator 1 or Senator 2.
I always thought that Senator 1 was the senior Senator and Senator 2 was the junior Senator (makes sense, right?) but I now think that it is the reverse.
 
Mike Lee is the junior Senator from Utah, so I doubt he'd be #1 of 2 -- although anything is possible since the SA makes the call on how these are "numbered." Also, he is a Senator, not a Rep. Finally, Utah only has one congressional district, so there aren't "6" MOCs.

The OP has two choices: Contact Sen. Lee's SA admissions person and ask if he/she is the principal nominee or contact the USMA admissions officer and ask.
 
Slotting is not based on seniority, rather what round of elections they are elected in. Since their is only one district, which is the same with my home state of ND, I don't know what the six is. My guess is it's his number of 10 for that position. Not a ranking just a number. My WP nomination code says NDAL2. ND is obvious, AL is at large, which would be the district, and two is what I believe to be my slot. I got the prin, but my MOC has one already nominated to WP so I think it means I'd be his second.

Thanks for all the help from everyone. I was able to call and found out that it is a competitive nomination. I don't know if my friend got a nomination or not; but I have also been lucky enough to receive nominations from the other senator in Utah and my Congressman. So now I'm 3Q'd and triple nominations, now its just the waiting game…….Hopefully I'll survive
