Ft Leavenworth. They'll have some very nice facilities waiting for him at the US Military Disciplinary Barracks.

He'll even get a new name! (which is simply a number, as the guards refer to everyone there by their number, as prisoners do not have a name or rank while incarcerated there).

The article states he'll be tried in Federal Court, not military...so probably not Leavenworth.

I am sure he will make some close friends there. As was mentioned I feel really sorry for his parents and may I add especially the victims of this exploitation.

Its surprising....

Its surprising, its disgusting, its shameful and its unfortunate. The laws of percentages that reflect todays society tell us all this was going to be inevitable. This behavior, as disgusting as it is, does not define the Corp of Cadets, parents, mentors, staff or the Service Academies. He is gone. Lets move forward and not blame the victims of this crime against all that is good we are trying to achieve.
As you have witnessed the ripple affect that pornography of any kind has on all of us. We must be vigilant protecting our most precious resource, our children. We, must all take responsibility to set an example.

Push Hard, Press Forward

Wow, first thoughts of concern are for his parents? Child pornography is not a victimless crime. The children involved are victimized every time their image is transferred to another person. This cadet did not have pictures of his 17 year old girlfriend. It's very difficult for me to imagine how an 8 year old victim can be blamed.

Fortunately he will be tried in FEDERAL court and when found guilty do time in a Federal prison. This is good because it prevents his commanding officer from deciding that he is of *good character* and tossing a conviction.

The funny thing about child porn is that when the perps are caught, their friends and family will be shocked. Never saw it coming and in somewhat a state of disbelief.

If you are unfamiliar with how children are victimized please read this:

I read through these posts, where did anyone put any blame on the victim?

I think it goes without saying that everyone's thoughts are first with the children that are the victims of these crimes.

To simply say that you feel for the parents of this monster doesn't automatically place blame on the victims.

I highly doubt any Commander would toss this type of conviction.

That's a cheap shot. No system is perfect, you make it sound like Courts martial verdicts are overturned all the time.

I'd heard of this story and seen the second article, but after looking at the first one realized that this guy was a cadre at SLE, he seemed like a chill person.

This is shocking especially considering the timeline given, and it just goes to show you never really know what's up with people.

However I hate the fact that so many news outlets are trying to make this about him being from West Point, stuff like this likely happens more at civilian colleges without everyone attempting to marr the name of the school because of one persons actions.

While I agree that he is just one person and shouldn't hurt the reputation of USMA, I think this is a good lesson to all future cadets/midshipmen that the nation really does expect more from their men and women in uniform.

I pray for the victims and hope they are getting help as needed. Yes, a lot of people are surprised and disgusted and disappointed. I hold my sympathy regards the parents, so far. I understand child abuse in all forms is learned behavior. Thus I suspect there is some history here... close personal history ... that brings us to where we are today.

Navygirl, hate it, yes... After a career in public service and having been in organizations where a member has disgraced themselves and thus brought a cloud over the whole group, all I can say is life is different in the 'fish bowl.' One can only hope that everyone in the fish bowl can keep the good of the organization in mind regards all their actions. And since, while in the 'fish bowl' ones public and private actions are pretty much intertwined (or presumed to be intertwined), when I say 'all actions' I mean public and private.
In another thread we read about the AF General who disgraced himself and the AF and the nation. Not really much different, except for the details. One difference: In the General's case there was, I suspect previous indications of the behavior that went unreported. In that case, too, it seems others can shoulder a share of the blame for letting things go along for so long. In the Cadet's case, it seems things were caught and acted upon much earlier.

You will learn that you need to be careful when making assumptions.

The article states he'll be tried in Federal Court, not military...so probably not Leavenworth.

The article states that he was arraigned in Federal Court. Most likely because it was a Federal agency that discovered his crime and arrested him for it. He is still a member of the US military, and as such they have jurisdiction on him. It will be a matter of whether the US Army wants to asssert thier jurisdiction of his trial. That being said, I fully expect him to go to Courts Martial vice a federal trial, mostly because most Federal Prosecutors know that he will more likely face stiffer penalty through the UCMJ than through Federal courts.

So yeah, I'm expecting a rather warm welcome for him at Leavenworth. Most likely solitary confinement for a long while for his own safety. Having toured the old facility ("the Castle"), I'll just say he's in for a long miserable existence if he is guilty of this crime (and rightfully so).

JMS and Strength and Honor those are both very good points.

Jcleppe, those weren't entirely assumptions, it's been in the news before; here's a few examples
http://www.abc27.com/story/23814944/college-student-arrested-on-child-porn-charges
http://www.wccbcharlotte.com/story/...ed-for-having-child-porn-on-computer-20131210
http://onwardstate.com/2013/03/30/penn-state-student-charged-with-56-counts-of-child-pornography/

those are all separate accounts within the past year

Your right, things like this are just as likely to happen at an Academy as they are at any college. The media reported these cases just as they did the one from WP.

I think it's best to be less concerned whether a school gets a bad press report and more on how to protect children from monsters like this, no matter where their from.
