Does the following guarantee me an appointment to USMA?
LOE + 3Q + Medical waiver + Nomination = Appointment

NO! Unless the nomination is a principal nomination you are not guaranteed as appointment. If the LOE had been an LOA, then regardless of the nomination type, you would have also been guaranteed an appointment. But your equation, as written, is false. Given they sought a waiver then there is a pretty good chance of an appointment, but only time will tell.

About 2,500 to 3,000 candidates will be 3Qd and have a nomination - that is they are fully qualified in every way. However, only about 1,200 will be given an offer.
This is where it is important to have a very high Whole Candidate Score. In short - (with some exceptions) the best candidates will get offers. In some cases less qualified candidates that are needed to "balance" the class (women, some minorities etc) will get offers.
Fair or not - depending on your point-of-view, there are "goals" that Admissions will try to fill. However, all of these people will be fully qualified.

BigNick interesting statement. So women and some minorities are less qualified? Not all minorities just some? I wonder which “some” you make reference to? I wonder how First Captain Lindsey Danilack would respond? Or is she the exception? I wonder how Cadet Kiley Hunkler would respond? If you don’t know who she is BigNick she was one of two cadets selected for Rhodes Scholarships to study at Oxford.
Not all things are equal when West Point Admissions suffers over Class of 2018 selection. They do look for the well-rounded candidate not always the best. This is why WP does not select a candidate who has a perfect ACT/SAT without any athletics.
This is the not so perfect. Lets say the great state of Montana only cultivates two or three candidate who want to attend WP. And you take a very competitive area like the great state of California that cultivates 400 applicants out of 7 districts. The stiff competition will squeeze the cream to the top. Not so perfect, but does generate an exceptional pool to select from.

Depends on how we defined "qualified." As I tell candidates, it's not the best 1200 or so that are offered appointments, rather 1200 out of all the "qualified" candidates. Candidates supposed to have WCS scores, so if a candidate with a higher WCS score don't get an appointment and another candidate with a lower WCS score gets an appointment, we could get say a less qualified candidate got an appointment.
For us, it's easier to rationalize the ideas of "well-rounded" candidate, intangibles, diversity, and etc, but for young men and women that wants to attend West Point, not so easy to understand.
Had a candidate that contacted me to ask why her application was closed. I told her because she wasn't a competitive candidate (low SAT). She respectfully argued that how can West Point evaluate her fully with a completed application and she knows another kid in her high school with lower SAT scores than her with an open application. She asked me how can this be fair?
It is always dangerous to write notes such as I wrote above because someone will see things that I did not say or intend.

FACT: From the pool of totally qualified people - (3Q with Nom)some WITH LOWER WHOLE CANDIDATE SCORES are picked to diversify the class. All of these people are FULLY qualified but they are selected while others with higher WCS are not selected. THIS IS A FACT.

I think you are being far to critical of his comments. The only thing he is guilty of may be a lack of clarity in his comments. The big nick that has posted here for years deserves better than your quick jump to conclusions.

Maybe you should change your signature to "Make Leaps, Freak Out."
Anyone with an ounce of insight knew what he was saying. West Point itself will freely admit that everything he said is true. Less qualified candidates get taken all the time.

Thankfully, we have people like Scout Pilot on this board that understand West Point and the Army. He also understands that there are some on this board that only want to help by providing factual information and advice based on real world experience at WP and the Army.
