Saw an earlier thread regarding deferred early action decisions and was wondering if any one else out there still has not been informed of their status. Nothing new in the portal and no envelope in the mail. I have a nomination and am medically qualified. At this point just waiting. Anyone else in the same boat?

Yep. I received my nomination a little while ago and am medically qualified but still have not heard or recievedanything. Less than a month and we will find out for sure. Good luck!

I'm right there with you. The only thing that is new with my portal is the updated status about my nomination. Hopefully it's a good sign... wishing you the best of luck :thumb:

If I'm not mistaken, the only thing that EA promised, was that if you got your application completed on time, you would know something by mid January vs having to wait until april-may. And even that would only be a yes, no, or maybe. The EA was meant primarily for those who would most likely be guaranteed an appointment but was also receiving numerous other offers.

This doesn't mean if you haven't heard anything it means you aren't going to receive an appointment. Just that you're part of the normal selection. Not down playing EA. But just about anyone who was classified as a candidate prior to Nov 1st, was given EA status. Again, the main reason for EA was to reduce the number of candidates who were accepting other offers because the academy's offer was usually much later. So EA candidates will hear bymid January what their chances are compared to non EA who won't hear anything until april-may. Some may have heard earlier, but a lot of that was dependent on their MOC and when they completed all of their nominations. Many MOC don't even post their complete nomination list until January. And federal law requires the academies to take a certain number directly from the MOC list and compete only state wide before they rank and compare candidates nationally. You're in a wait and see pattern. Just relax and enjoy your holidays. I know the anticipation sucks. Best of luck.

According to admissions, those who applied EA and were deferred to the general candidate pool have been notified through the portal. The rest of us will either receive LOA's, appointments ( if noms are in place) or worst case-- an outright rejection letter by the Jan date. I was just wondering if there were a fair number of folks waiting to hear; I know there have already been a number of appointments - even in my own congressional district.

And my point simply was that because of the complexity of the appointment process; including who the academy must choose vs who they may want to choose; not receiving any notification of going into the national pool, loa, appointment, or anything else, is neither bad or good. An EA applicant will hear something by mid January. Anything sooner would be based on a number of factors.

DS was notified by admissions about a LOA a couple of weeks ago. He was very surprised. His brother is a recent grad so we have been through this before, however the EA process was not an option at the time. Both his ALO and the admissions counselor said that candidates who have been deferred have gone through an objective screening process based on "paper" and have not yet been scored by the admissions board. If you have not been notified it most likely means that you have been or are being evaluated by the board (your app has been passed on based on objective criteria). Good Luck to you all !

So...if we haven't been deferred...that means we are good enough on paper...and now it's just the "human element" looking at our application? Does this mean we're triple qualified!?

Thanks all!

If you weren't qualified, your portal would say disqualified. Triple qualified means you passed the medical, academic, and physical. You should know if you're qualified or not.

Thank you,

I knew I was medically qualified, but I was unaware that it would say disqualified if my physical/academic didn't meet standards; I simply thought that my application was not yet evaluated. However I did always think that everything I did was rather well and qualified. Guess all I can do now is wait!

Thanks again and have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Yep! I'm in the same boat as well. Even though it won't be too much longer now, the days keep dragging on. I check the portal nearly every hour to see if my status has changed, but it has remained constant.

Best of luck to all of you!

My status changed this morning to an LoA. The academy still hasn't updated my status of principal nomination. I guess I'm just double secure now for the class of 2018 :yay:

So where do we think we're at if our portal has NO updates, other than nominations?

Sincerely confused and nervous

Akogan,
From what I can tell.....don't read too much in to that. Expect to see results comingout over the next 2, 3, or 4 months. I understand that 8 months a year, they are just buried in work.

We sent in updates a while back, and DS called his counselor to verify that they indeed had them. They verified that they had them, were a few weeks out in the data entry, bu they have them and are working as hard s they can.

2-4 months? For the early action program, they guaranteed a decision (acceptance, deferral, or rejection) by January 15th. I also heard that most of the deferrals have been sent out already, and that if you haven't been notified about anything yet, then you most likely are either going to be accepted or rejected. However, I wouldn't quote me on that last part, just something I read earlier, and there are sure to be exceptions like always.

I myself haven't heard about my Early Action status either, so I hope they send them out soon! Best of luck to all of you! :thumb:

So...first off congrats on the ROTC scholarship;

Next...if we haven't been deferred...with 3 nominations (1 Presidential)...do we have a legitimate shot of appointment? If we've already passed the objective screening board as another poster said?

Sorry I'm so anxious...been my dream for as long as I can remember! Well actually serving is the dream, but this is a straightforward path to it!

Thanks all!

Thanks for the congrats!

As far as your question: The number of nominations you receive doesn't really come into play in your candidate score. What I assume really matters is bringing up our ranking to make sure we are competitive against the entire pool of candidates. If you have any new ACT/SAT scores, I would submit them as soon as possible along with your 7th semester transcripts so that the admissions office can view them before they make a decision.

I took the December ACT, and greatly improved my GPA and class rank this last semester, so hopefully that will bring up my whole candidate score and increase my competitiveness. Best of luck!:thumb:

You need to understand the charging process and stop worrying about this EA issue.

For example:
Candidate Smith receives a nom from MOC XYZ. They did not submit by Nov 1st. Not one candidate can be charged to the MOC until Candidate Smith is boarded if the MOC submits a competiitive (unranked) slate.
~ A candidate can get an appointment, but don't confuse that with being charged to their MOC slate, and the remaining 9 are sent to the pool.

The submission board has not closed yet, and will not for a while. Heck some MOCs will be doing their interviews in January.

It is far from over. If you don't believe me, look back a yr ago on this forum for the appointment thread. I am not seeing a huge difference in the amount of posters that have received their BFE this yr compared to last yr. by this time.

Coltron,
Out of curiosity what do you mean by back up regarding nom on your signature line?

Pima, I changed my signature line and sent you a private message. Also, thanks for clarifying the admissions process.

I really hope you're right on the "either going to be accepted or rejected" part. I know that literally tens of thousands of people have had to wait so much longer than I have to find out, but I honestly can't imagine having to wait a few more months after expecting to hear on the 15th! I've been counting the days ever since I got that EA email.

My ALO said my package went before the board this past week, and I've literally had my phone by my side ever since in case I get a call from the admissions office/my representative informing me of my status. I know I'll hear by the Jan 15th deadline, but I remain hopeful I will hear before that.... The stress is killing me! Lol
