Your academics and PFT look pretty good. I think you're on the right track. Do you have any other EC's, leadership or team sports? But what do you plan to major in, any STEM subjects? You have listed all CA system schools; is it safe to assume that they are IS for you then?

Also, off topic, I find it interesting that you were a wing commander of 225 cadets- and that number looks like half your school. Are you going to a public high school? I've just never seen those numbers for an AFJROTC unit in a public school before.

Aveon, I also volunteer with my JROTC unit and was given certificates of awards from President Obama, Senator Boxer and many Congressmen for my participation in the community. I have no other EC's or leadership other than the positions I've mentioned. I plan to major in history and want to be an intelligence officer. I am the Cadet Commander of 255 cadets, this number includes students from the 9, 10, 11 and 12th grades. The 474 students are only from the graduating class of 2014. Yes I do attend a public school and my schools JROTC unit is the biggest Air Force unit on the West of the Mississippi River (not meaning to brag).

my bad , your right that's your grad class number. However, I've been involved with AFJROTC for quite sometime now and I have never seen a unit as large as yours

I'm going to send you a PM :thumb:

Your GPA and Math/Reading SAT scores are on the low side for getting admission to UCLA. All of the schools in CA are competitive for admission. Remember -- getting an AROTC scholarship does not get you admission into the schools you list -- that is still your responsibility.

+1 I agree with ca2, your math SAT is on the low side.

I don't know the % breakdown for PAR with AROTC, but for AFROTC, the math portion matters.

Black belt is considered varsity, and it also illustrates that you commit to things long term.

Don't stress too much about the math: I had a 22 math score on the ACT (but 29 composite) and still got the scholarship. I think you have a good chance, a lot of it will depend on your interview to set you apart from other people that are borderline. How'd your interview go, and where'd you do it?

Strength, you may have had a 24 on math, but your composite was 29. If my math is correct you would have had to avg @ 31 on each remaining section, or in SAT terms @ high 600/low 700s for the Verbal section. A 29 composite Is euivalent to 1280-1310. The OPs SAT would barely convert to a 23 composite for the ACT. Had they scored just 10 points less he would have had a 22 ACT composite.

A 29 composite is probably the median for AROTC. I know for AFROTC the avg for the lowest type is scholarship is 28 best sitting (no super score) , 31 is the avg for type 1, which is on par for those applying for an SA.

I am not trying to be Debbie Downer, but it is important to remember that although ROTC maybe your plan A with no intention of applying to an SA, other ROTC candidates are applying for an AROTC scholarship as plan B. The boards are not going to place into their equation if the recipient is also applying for an appointment. They are going to assume that this is plan A.

Hence, why I feel what may hurt them is their SAT.
That being said, absolutely nobody here sits on the boards, and if they did they wouldn't announce it, thus asking a chance is going to give no insight. I have been here long enough to tell you that there have been many times when posters have politely stressed get a plan B, C and D in order, while for others they say things like you have better stats....I got one, yet in the end the one that they thought had a slim chance got the scholarship, while the other got a TWE saying, at this time we regret.....

You just have to go through the process and wait it out like everyone else. During that time, if you have had any medical issues get your paperwork in order for the just in case remedial or DQ.

+1 Pima
My DS is applying to USNA & USMA as Plan A. Plan B is AROTC & NROTC-MO scholarships. Having missed the first board for AROTC and seeing that he may or may not get an offer to 1-3 schools on his list makes me nervous.

BTW -- he has a 35 ACT composite, 4.46 wgpa, top 2% of his class, Boy Scouts/Boys State, Varsity swimmer 4 yrs + captain, etc.

I'm hopeful he's offered a scholarship as Plan B but there are too many factors to consider to say he's a shoo-in. Plan C (merit scholarships/need-based financial aid) is ready if needed.

Let's also remember the big thing is going to be school selection. The OP maybe a top pick for one college because academically it is a match or safety, thus for that school their stats look great.

There is just too much uncertainty to ever give a chance.

Personally, unless you have a hook somewhere in your resume, I am with ca2 regarding UCLA admissions, I would think it is a high reach based on stats posted.

Finally, are all of these colleges different dets.? Let's say two of them are the same unit. 1 being host, 1 being x-town. Larger universities usually have smaller colleges within their set. Our DS (AFROTC) at UMDCP, was the host, and kids commuted an hour or more from their college. Some of those colleges are less competitive academically.

I do not know the answer, Dunninla, Jcleppe or Clarkson probably knows this, but since AROTC likes to spread the wealth, how does that impact the scholarship process. I.E. Do they spread the wealth to every college, which includes x-town or is it to the host unit, and if the x-town has the stats, but did not place the host on the list, it just goes against the host colleges number.
~ GMU in VA is not a host, they travel to UMDCP. Many kids will not apply to UMDCP because even though it is only 20 miles away they would be OOS. Thus, my question....does AROTC count it as GMU or the det.?

Your academics are really low for the academies and would not pass for an AFROTC scholarship, where mostly STEM scholarships are allocated.

However, I personally know several cadets who received an AROTC scholarship for liberal studies with academics not much better than the OP. Now did they make first board? No. And should you keep taking the ACT/SAT? Yes!! Putting aside the minimum qualifications of 920/19 and 2.5gpa, like other posters have said, It is also very much school and applicant pool dependent. But do you have a chance with the stats you listed? I think you do, but you can always become a stronger applicant by increasing those scores! And thats just my opinion, for whatever its worth.

Also, though all IS, your list is not an uncommon mix, as I see everything from high to low reaches and matches. Your stats will not get you into UCLA, that's a high reach for you. But you have said you were accepted to UC Fresno, correct? So as I comment, I am assuming you will get into at least one of your target schools.

Also, have you taken your interview yet? I also sent you a PM, you probably have more ECs and leadership in your AFROTC than you realize.
