May be a stupid question, but I don't know too much about the naval academy compared to other SA's, but is the naval academy still on rolling admissions? Has anybody gotten appointments or anything like that? What is the timeframe?

So, my senators/congressman do something weird, they won't duplicate a Nomination (IDK why) so the only nomination I have is Presidential, what are the chances I will be offered an appointment under the presidential nomination status?

If your MOC don't duplicate nominations they are trying to spread the wealth (very common) to give as many candidates as possible in your state/district a nomination. You only need one nomination for an appointment. I don't think anyone here can tell you your odds of getting an appointment with a Presidential nomination. Any chance you have an LOA?

No LOA. And, unfortunately, my senators won't nominate until the end of this month (January), which I think puts me at a time disadvantage. Do most senators nominate before this time? I have seen a lot of senator nominations just on this site that were nominated way before me.

Class of 2017 had 822 Presidential Nominations for those 100 appointment slots so 12% chance vs ~1 appointment in 10 noms for competitive senator slate vs 1 in ? (up to 10) for competitive congressional rep. (some districts don't even get 10 applicants....). So, one could argue (on the bright side) that you have a better chance at appointment with a presidential nom than a senatorial and maybe congressional depending upon competitiveness of your district. :smile:

Curious...what "time disadvantage" are you referring to? The MOC's all have until January 31st to submit their nominations.

MOC have until the end of January to submit their slates to the SAs. Are you saying they're done with interviews, but just haven't released their nominations yet? Each MOC can do it in their own timeframe, as long as they submit the slates to the SAs on time. You still have time to request a VP nom, and it's easy and online (and nothing to lose!).

I mean, a person who was nominated by his senator on Dec. 15th and gets an offer of appointment on the 22nd got a better time advantage, and if that happens with a large amount of the candidates, my chances for an appointment go down because they would have already given out a lot already. I saw on a thread that some of those accepted had already been nominated by multiple sources getting them in on multiple nomination pools to be chosen from while I am still in only the presidential nomination pool with only 100 slots available.

Those getting appointments now have LOAs, are recruited athletes, were accepted last year but were injured, etc. The bulk of appointments will go out in the next 2-3 months.

This is nonsense. Each congressman gets an appointment off their slate provided at least one person is 3Q. There is no such thing as a time disadvantage in this regard. There is an appointment reserved for the congressman/senator.

Although it is common for congressmen and senators to coordinate and not duplicate nominations within their state, those same congressmen and senators seldom check (or even know) whether one of their applicants has already secured a presidential of vice presidential nomination.

Therefore, for candidates in states that do not duplicate nominations, it is in the candidate's best interest to obtain an additional nomination from the president or VP. It will increase the odds of obtaining an appointment.
