Scholarships and School Acceptance

I have applied for both Army and Air Force ROTC scholarships. Army is my preference and my application for that scholarship has been boarded so I'm now just awaiting hopefully good news in early February. My question is this: My top two choices were George Washington University and American University. I am confident I will be accepted to American but George Washington is probably 50/50. Suppose I am awarded a scholarship in February (fingers crossed). George Washington's admission notification is April 1. What happens if I am awarded and accept a scholarship only to find out in April I did not get into George Washington, would I be able to transfer it to American or another school on my list, is that the best course of action? If this has been answered elsewhere on these forumns I sincerely apologize, I searched. Thank you all in advance for any help or advice!

I'm no expert but these two schools are in the same battalion (hoya) probably wouldn't be too much trouble.
 
There is a way to transfer scholarships, but from my understanding it is not an easy task. GW and American U are in the same battalion right? so transferring the scholarship could be a little easier.
 
Both schools are affiliates of the what'saHoya? battalion (Georgetown), and both are in the expensive private school category (GWU is about 15% more expensive). While there are no guarantees, it's hard to imagine a transfer request would be turned down.
 
If they are in the same battalion does that mean they do all their training/classes together? Northwestern and Loyola are like that. So I am under the impression that it really wouldn't be much of a transfer between the two since other than living at Loyola, all NROTC activities would still take place at NU. But I am assuming and that is always dangerous.....
 
it also depends on if their are open spots at that school

Not all activities occur at G'town ALL the time. As an MSI DS had class at AU, this past semester G'town, next semester there is an MSII class back at AU (I think). PT is twice a week at G'town (MSIIIs and IVs carpool) and once a week at home campus. RC and ATM are both at G'town. No metro stop at G'town unlike AU and GW.
 
I was aware they were in the same battalion but I really am very new to this whole process so wasn't sure if I could request that transfer or how that would work. So that said I really appreciate the speedy and helpful replies! Go Colonials, Go Eagles and Go Army.
 
Like someone else replied on a different thread, once you know the schools you were awarded a scholarship to, called that battalion. Tell them you were awarded an ROTC scholarship but had not heard back from admissions and that you would like to be part of their battalion. Ask them if there is any way they can help speed up that process so you can make a choice and inform cadet command in a timely manner. Then you won't need to request a transfer which you may not get. I bet the battalion would be thrilled to assist a potential student who has already been awarded a scholarship. Plus it will show your initiative and resourcefulness.

I keep telling DS, "why wait when you can be proactive and get something accomplished that will only benefit yourself." Do what you can as soon as you can. The early bird gets the worm! Right?

Yes and no. By all means notify the cadre at the schools where you have been awarded a scholarship. Be careful how you ask for "help" in the admissions process.
 
Son got 4 yr AROTC scholarship to Georgetown U (and two other schools in different Battalions) before admission acceptances went out. He contacted Hoya Battalion to tell them of his scholarship and to see if they are involved in the admission process (he contacted all three schools that he got the AROTC scholarship to) while the other two schools immediately said they work closely with admissions and would contact admissions on his behalf, the Hoya Battalion said they do not get involved with admissions at all.

My DD graduated from GWU and loved it. She liked being downtown. She was not in ROTC, but lots of people were.
Do go with the school that you love. ROTC can be worked out around that.
And, if your name is anything close to Thomas Harris you may wish to reconsider using your real name in any public internet forum, such as this one.
