Hello everyone, I have a quick question regarding nominations. I received my nom from my congressman and found out today that I was "ranked" number one out of all the nominations given by the MOC. How does this, if any, help me? It isnt the same as a primary nom so I'm not exactly sure what gravity it holds. If anyone can answer this it would be much appreciated!!! Thanks so much everyone!!!

If it was ranked, I would assume you have the principal nomination. It's really hard to tell because it doesn't sound like that's what you were told. Who told you that you were ranked #1?

I think (not 100% sure) that one of the options for the MOC is to rank the candidates but, unless they specifically designate a "principal nominee", such rankings are only advisory to the service academy.

I don't think being ranked #1 is necessarily the same as, officially, being designated as a "principal nominee".

Principal nominees, if qualified, must receive an appointment.

I'll let a BGO clarify this.

If you are not the principal nominee, but ranked by your MOC, two scenarios.

- for internal purpose only and holds no meaning with Navy
- Your MOC can tell the Naval Academy to offer the appointment to first qualified candidate in the ranking.

Agree with the above posters.

I would check with your MOC and ask if you were submitted to USNA as the MOC's "principal nominee." If not, the rankings are meaningless to USNA and (other than knowing you were well thought of) to you.

Given that it was someone in USNA admissions that said "ranked number one", is it possible that they were referring to the WCS rank of the OP relative to the slate that the MOC nominated?

I haven't heard of this info being given out but someone in the admissions office making the mistake of referring to "ranked number one" vs principal seems unlikely. Just putting it out there for others to consider who are much more knowledgeable than I....
