Hello All,

I have applied EA to the Academy and just recently got a status update from USAFA that says I have been submitted for a medical waiver. I also have received my Congressman's nomination. My ALO seems to think this is a very good thing (would be an appointment if not medically disqualified). I was just wondering if someone could confirm this, or if anyone is in the same situation and what your ALO said? I'm assuming I am still in the EA program, seeing as how I have not gotten differed or rejected? Not trying to be impatient, but I am very curious. Thank you.

Respectfully,
Spikingeagle

spiking eagle, I would also interpret this as positive. If they requested a medical waiver, it means you are not medically qualified 'as is'. Only USAFA can request a medical waiver, you can't request it yourself. They would only request a waiver for someone they would consider for appointment, therefore, it is a good thing. Respond to whatever information they request regarding your medical status and good luck!

I'm in the same situation as you are. I'm not sure what we'll hear on the 15th since we are DQ'd, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Yay...

My DS is in the exact same position. Hoping to hear soon!

Keep us all posted!

USAFA submitted a waiver for me last year as well. I wasn't in the early action program then like I am this year, but my SAT score for math was too low to enter (that's what admissions told me once I got my rejection letter.) It still could be a good thing, but it depends on the person. Don't give up. Waivers aren't the worst thing for an application & I would speak with an admissions counselor in regards to EA status with it, but I believe they can still give a letter of assurance pending on medical waiver. Not entierly sure though.

My DS is in the same boat. 2 noms and waiting for his waiver to be processed. Received a letter yesterday saying he is deferred to regular selection, not sure if this is due to his waiver not being granted yet or not.

I too got a letter of deference yesterday, I'm hoping it's due to the waiver being necessary. I figured if they can't appoint me without it the waiver they would have to defer me. Does that make sense?

We ALOs don't really know what is happening with the cycle this year because everything is new with the Early Notification. The best I can tell you is that it is positive that you have had a waiver requested for you. Many students have already received letters telling them that they are NOT having waivers requested for them. It's only my guess, but I'm thinking that you might be but into the regular notification cycle until your waiver is processed. We don't know for sure about anything…

I haven't heard anything on my status yet. My guidance counselor said that I would received a LOA if they were to offer me an appointment on Jan 15th, or that I would be deferred to regular admissions, and that he didn't know which would happen.

Since I haven't been deferred as of yet, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for the best! :thumb:

Nolifepilot: are you in need of a waiver also?

Yes, USAFA notified me on Dec 18th that they would be requesting a waiver for me, and I spoke with my guidance counselor this past Thursday about what would happen on Jan 15th since I was medically disqualified.

I received a letter of deference today, good luck to everyone else!

DS also got deferred today. Wondering if everyone who had a waiver requested was deferred?

No notice for DS on portal, phone, mail, email, carrier pegion, Nada!! hoping something will be posted on portal tonight - put us out of our misery! Then the wait for April.

No change on the portal for DD, either. You just know that she'll have to wait until midnight tomorrow.

I received a letter of deference today, good luck to everyone else!

Nolifepilot,

Would you mind telling us the date your letter was SENT? We are in Alaska. DD has heard nothing - no e-mail, portal message, phone call, etc.

Sometimes mailed letters take 5-6 days to get from the Lower '48.

I'm just hoping we don't have to wait past the 15th to get a letter.

If it helps DS's letter was posted to his portal. We got an email informing us when it was posted this morning.

Not sure if anyone will know, but has anyone been informed of either a date by which we will hear something about waivers/ if we do receive a waiver will we still have to wait for regular selection in March? My ALO said if I don't hear something by first week of February we will do "something." Not really sure what he has in mind though... many thanks.
