Hey all,

I received an MOC nomination from Virginia, and the website says, "My office will submit a list of up to ten nominees from an unranked slate for each vacancy."

I see lots of talk on here about "principal nominations" and have gathered this to mean some offices pick a single applicant as the best and tell the Academy that is their top pick. Does the description provided by my MOC website mean there is no principal nominee? If so, what does that mean for admission.

It indeed means that the slate will have no principal. The MOC is leaving it up to USNA to charge their appointment.

For you and the other 9 on the slate it means that the highest WCS will win their appointment for their slate.
 
An "unranked slate of up to ten for each vacancy" means that USNA admissions board chooses who from the MOCs slate of 10 nominees gets the appointment. I read somewhere that over 70% of MOCs use this method (other methods are principal with ranked slate of up to 10 or principal with unranked slate of up to 10 for each vacancy).

Which one would think is very rare.... so you might say that it is virtually certain, or almost certain, that each MOC will get an appointment.
 
DS had 1 nomination and received a letter saying he would not receive a nomination from another MOC. Then 2 months later he received a nomination from that same MOC. The letter stated that some of the MOCs nominees had been DQed so DS was receiving a nomination. So apparently MOCs can change their nominees up to some point. At least they could/did a few years ago.

If all this happened prior to Jan 31 of that year, then this is all just normal MOC process and the academy and it's admissions process has nothing to do with it.
