Does anyone know how far one must throw the basketball for the CFA for the USMMA....

Thanks

1. As far as you can and to the best of your ability...

Practice the ball throw. There is definitely a technique that my DS found after 3-4 weeks of practice. When he first started, he could not throw past 60 feet. He ended up at 77 feet on this CFA submission. It was not because he developed "basketball throwing muscles" during those weeks. He learned how to develop momentum, how to snap his wrist, and when to release. I think we ended up throwing the ball 20-30 times/day.

Advice: warm up before you practice. It is the kind of activity that you can injure yourself if it is not a routine exercise for you (i.e. HS quarterback).

Finally, I would recommend that you test yourself buy doing all 5 events in the prescribed order and within the allotted timeframes.

thanks for the advice. The replies were very helpful and greatly appreciated. BTW received my Letter of Commitment from USMMA (just have to get this BB throw down)!

My son was working on the BB throw a couple of years ago and was stuck at about 60'. We videoed him throwing so he could see what he was doing. He worked on it for a couple of weeks using the videos to improve his form. When he took the test he threw it 86'.

Thanks for the reply....I am definitely not throwing the BB at that distance. have to practice a lot. Thank you again

Before you stress out over this, understand it is an overall total score they are looking at, not a per event result. Some folks may be great at push ups, and weak at pull ups, or vice- versa. Do not take any of it for granted, but it is not required for you to "blow away" each category. It is an overall physical condition they are testing for. Also, it is a pass/fail test, which has no bearing on your acceptance...unless you fail...Good Luck

I didn't practice at all, took the test, you get 3 tries, and my first was about '53 then '55. I then became afraid and angry that I might not do well enough so I let out the loudest grunt and got a '67. It's all in the grunt. But I recommend practicing.

Thanks for the comments...All I have to re-take is the BB throw..just not getting it very far....and I'm practicing.

practice.

practice!!! practice all of it. It's not as easy as you might think- do a complete run through before you do your final test as well. Good luck.

Thanks for all the advise... Really am having a difficult time with this...been practicing, watching videos, working on upper and core strength....but no improvement yet. Will keep working on it....

Basket Ball Throw

Hi Everyone. Thanks for all the advice on the BB Throw. I had my Practice Throw today and my scores were 59 58 59 (ft)....still quite concerned that this isn't enough. Again...many thanks...this is all that's keeping me from a Principal Appointment.(Have a Conditional Appointment) Having the final throw tomorrow morning. Any advice?

I believe 59 is above the minimum.

I did it! 60 ft and a change in status to "Prinicipal"....So I think this is good!

Thanks everyone.

To Smith56

That is not good.

It is GREAT! If that status is principal, you have been selected for the class of 2018!

You will be receiving a very nice package via FedEx before you know it. Well done!
