CAR updates by guidance counselors?

Ok, realize that my son's counselor is not a sharp knife. So it may just be him....but how do counselors update CARs? Does my son need to contact the admissions dept at USNA and have them send the counselor another access email? The counselor just emailed me and said, "All of my stuff is not accessible since I've sent it in. But I'm sure your son can go online and add it." :rolleyes:

He has a varsity captain position, state scholar recognition, etc. that need to be added to his application.

What is CAR?

The guidance counselor has to EMAIL the updates to your son's Admissions Counselor. That was the only way my son was able to update his application.

To help the guidance counselor, my son wrote the updates in an email to the guidance counselor and included instructions to the guidance counselor telling him exactly what he had to do to send this new information to USNA. Basically, all the counselor needed to do then was copy the updates to an email and send it the the Admissions Counselor….whose address was included on the email. Our Guidance Counselor really appreciated this approach.

I agree with andzgrl. Your DS's high school counselor should e-mail any new information/awards to the USNA Admissions Counselor listed on your DS's portal. Make sure he/she includes your DS's candidate # in the e-mail.

And yes….VERY IMPORTANT to include the Candidate ID number in the email…probably right at the start!
 
A representative (Lt) from the admissions office was in town doing a USNA briefing over the summer, and she said that we could send in hard copies of any additional awards, leadership positions, etc directly to the office and they have people on staff who literally spend the whole day scanning items to add them to the candidate's file. The reason for the hard copy (instead of email) was to verify and add to the file at the same time. This might be a good option if your guidance counselor is overloaded, and might not be able to get things updated quickly.
 
When there is tangible proof of an accomplishment (i.e. award certificate, newspaper clipping, etc.), it is a good idea to mail or scan (then email) it to the Admissions office. However, for example, as a team captain -- that might not be "written" down anywhere -- this is when the information needs to be endorsed from a high school official (either coming from their email or having them sign a document and then mailing/scanning it).
 
Agree with BGO08. You personally can snail mail additional info to USNA. That might be a good option if your school official isn't on the ball. As noted, you MUST either send objective evidence (e.g., Eagle Scout documentation) or, for school activities, a certification (signature/stamp) from your school official. If you don't, USNA won't consider them.
 
Why isn't Admissions Counselor indicating email not sufficient?

DS has emailed his admissions counselor with two achievements, one for the CAP Billy Mitchell award (very significant), and another for lettering Sr. year in football. Neither time did the admissions counselor indicate that additional documentation was required.
