My DS has received his AROTC 4 yr. scholarship notification to 3 schools. He has been accepted by 2 of the 3 schools. His 1st choice school had advised during visitation that they do not provide offers of acceptance until mid to late March, obviously outside the timeline required for AROTC scholarship acceptance. Any suggestions on how to approach this situation?

Your DS basically has two options: he can either contact admissions at his #1 school and explain the situation to them to see if they would be willing/able to expedite their decision, or he can accept the scholarship to one of the other schools and then try to get it transferred at a later date to his #1 school (by no means a guaranteed thing).

Actually, there is another option, though a risky one. If Future2LtMom's first suggestion doesn't pan out, he could still accept the scholarship to #1 school. If he's not accepted there he could then try to transfer it to #2 or #3.

This is AROTC's version of the Monty Hall Problem. Should be a fun discussion at your dinner table.

I don't know if this is helpful or not, but my son had his ROTC interview at his #1 choice school. He has not been accepted to that school yet. As soon as he found out about his scholarship the other day, he sent an email to this person thanking him for his assistance in the interview and letting him know about the scholarship. This person requested that my son send him a copy of his acceptance letter and also had my son send it to several other people. I have no idea if this will speed up the process or not, but I think it's better than doing nothing.

My DS received his AROTC scholarship notification on Friday to 3 schools, and his #1 school he had not yet been accepted. We notified the PMS at his #1 school to let him know that he wants to attend that school but that his acceptance was still pending. We also notified the Admissions department, and their response was very generic that the non auto-admits would be notified by mid to late March. The PMS responded and hinted that we should check the admission status again. We did, but nothing had changed as of late yesterday.
Today, however, my DS' status was changed and he is now admitted.
I believe most schools if your DS has a strong application will accept you once they know you have an AROTC Scholarship. And that is consistent with what another PMS told us this summer.Good luck, be persistent!
