I did not receive a nomination from my senator or congressman

My application is complete including my 7 semester transcripts and I did receive a LOE. I applied for nomination from the VP, my Senator and Congressman. They did not nominate me to West Point. I don't know about a VP nomination.

Does this mean I have absolutely no chance of an appointment now?

How do you know you did not receive a Nom? Were you informed? If you definitely know for sure that you did not receive a Nom that I'd hate to say that ,as far as I know, you may not receive an appointment. However, I would express your interest in an AoG scholarship to your FFR.

Did you perchance receive a nomination to another academy? Sometimes, the MOC's won't nominate to more than one academy.

My congressman nominated me to the USNA (not principle) and one of the senators nominated me to the AFA (not principle) and the other senator did not nominate me to any academy. I know I'm not principle because the principle nominees already received appointments.

They will generally only appoint to one SA. However, that is not in stone with all. You are not out of the game. If one of the PNoms accepts to a different academy, you may still be in the running. Especially if you are still awaiting VP Nom.

Did you tell one MOC you wanted USNA as #1, another that you wanted USAFA #1 and another that you wanted USMA #1? If you did, that is a pretty dangerous game to play and can end up putting you in the exact situation you are in. I understand hedging bets, but sometimes it can backfire.

So a couple of things:

1. If you rank ordered the academies on your applications for noms, you have to be prepared to experience something like this. I ranked USMA as my #1 and received the nom and appointment, but I was not nom'd to any other academy. (not saying you ranked them because I don't know, but this may be the cause)

2. Make sure you let the Sen's or Congressmen know that you have an LOE. I told my congressman, and he said that was actually a big factor as I was only 1 of 3 in my state and part of another that received an LOE.

Sometimes things don't work out. Make sure you follow through with all nomination applications though. VP, Presidential (If you qualify) and so on.

Also remember that you are competing against everyone else in your state and/or congressional district. Even if you listed USMA #1, there may have been 10 more competitive candidates that also applied to your MOC. In that case you wouldn't receive their nomination. It's a long shot to get the VP nom, but it's still a shot.

I would also say that if you have an LOE, but no other nomination, you chance of getting a VP nom is fairly good. I won't go as far as to say they want you, but they were certainly interested in you.

Definitely definitely tell your FFR that you are interested in an AOG scholarship. Prep school is not an option because you need a nomination, but AOG scholarship is a possibility! If USMA is really what you want over the other academies, definitely go for an AOG scholarship.

NOM for USMAPS

I don't think it's a requirement. I didn't have one when I went to USMAPS. I came out of the Regular Army. Not sure if it's different for an Enlisted Reserve.

If he had a LOE, then he is probably overqualified for the prep school.

What is your first choice? Are you upset because you don't know which one you want and you wanted to have all 3 then choose later? That's not realistic. If you truly want USMA not one of the others, contact the MOC and ask if there's a way to change you to a slate for USMA from USXA. Can this happen? Yes. My 2012 grad had 2 noms to USMA but had an LOA to USNA. He hadn't had his CVW yet. So, he contacted MOC and asked if he could move slates. He was able to and then had appointments to both. He made the smart choice and went USMA, of course. If you don't ask, the answer is always no.

Same

Same thing happened to me with Navy. Only received a congressional nomination to USMA. I'm not upset at all, though. USMA has had my focus since I was in maybe 6th grade, and the USNA application was just a fun side hobby haha. Ultimately, it's what you want that matters. I decided to just stop working on the USNA application altogether even if there's a chance of a VP nomination. It's not what I want and I don't want to take the spot of someone who really cares about Navy. Hope that helped! :)

Best actionable advice you could get. Be ready for the question....if you really wanted USMA, why did you tell us USXA was your #1 choice?

"That's not realistic"

It seems to me that the OP wants the same as your son wanted, the option (that several nominations allows) to consider several academies. Your son had 2 noms to usma and changed one of his noms to usna (because of his LOA)? Your son got an appointment to both usma and usna, correct?... and was able to choose between the 2?

I think many of our DD and DS would like that same opportunity. Sometimes plan b is not a ROTC scholarship, but a desire to attend another SA.

Seems like the exact same thing except the OP wanted - exempt he was hoping for 3 options/nominations not 2.

I do think your advice is good advice to have him call his moc about the possibility of changing a nom to another SA if he truly wants it over another. My DS did that at his moc interview and it worked out fine.

Off the subject, but your tag line about the book your wrote, seems out of place on this forum which is not supposed to be commercial.

I told both senators and congressman that AFA was my first choice. I knew that the senator nominated me to the AFA when I interviewed with my congressman. I Told the board and they selected me for the Naval Academy. The other senator sent me a letter stating that he knew I received a nomination to the AFA so he didn't nominate me. I thought the senator would have nominated to me to me second choice but did not. That leaves me with no nomination to West Point. I did apply for nomination to VP but have never heard anything about it.

I sent the applications for nominations with AFA as number my #1 before I visited West Point. I realized during the campus visit West Point is where I want to be. When I interviewed with the congressman he had a spot open for the Naval Academy and gave me the nomination.
