Hi, I'm a high school sophomore from indiana and i have interest in going to west point. I have read the usma and other websites and i know this is the school for me. i was wondering what else can i do to be prepared, and have a good chance of getting in...
I swam varsity swimming my freshman year, and i am currently in the middle of this varsity swim season. I swim year round for my club team. I am in 4H, and i am the president of my local club. I am active in my church. I participate in concert band, jazz band, pep band, and marching band; this summer, i'll be either section leader or drum major. I am a member of our schools key club. I am a certified lifeguard, and next year, i'll take the EMT certification class. next year, I'll run for a class officer position(does it matter what position it is, or do they only care about the president position?) my GPA is around 3.65:thumbdown: and i take 2 honor classes. Thank you all so much for the help.

(also, just wondering, when trying to get a nomination from a congressman, do you only apply to your district, or can you apply to other districts? and, if anyone knows, how competitive is central indiana?)

Thank you...

I will tell you what anyone else is going to tell you. Do what you love, and do it well. Get involved in a few things and lead people, quality is more important than quantity. With that being said, just find your passion and excel at it.

Regarding the congressional district, you can only apply to your Congressman. You can apply to your Congressman, and your two Senators, and of course the Vice Pres. I really have no idea about Central Indiana, sorry. Good luck and I hope the process goes smoothly for you. Just my $0.02

hey,

i just got into USMA with the class of 2013 and can share a few pointers that i feel helped me get in. First, grades are the most important thing that you can do for youself. without the grades, you have little chance of getting in. take honors, IB, AP. show that you're motivated. next show interest. i can't tell you how often my dad and i would go to USMA admissions breifings in our area and go onto the USMA website to get info by mail. if they keep seeing your name at admissions, thats great. also, get started early. I began prepping the nomination applications in like april of junior year. i got it all done during the summer and when USMA put up their application in early sept. i tackled that as soon as possible. sorry for repeating but they want to see that you are motivated and interested. make sure to show consistancy with what you do, or , other words, stick with whatever you do. USMA doesn't liek quitters or candidates that just join to join. other things, uhhh, leadership roles in whatever you do, awards in whatever you participate, varsity letters in sports, and immerese yourself in the process. its good to know that you are interested early, that will help. this is just what i did. hope it helps and good luck.

Look through the SAT and ACT websites also. Consider the dates when both are offered and begin to plan when you will take them your junior year.

Best of luck to you as you prepare for applying to be in the class of 2015! :thumb:
