Chances, passed on first 2 board selections, thoughts?

Major: History

SAT:
64 Reading
59 Math
61 Writing

ACT: 24 composite, only one testing

GPA: 3.43 private catholic high school/ grades on 7pt scale
All honors, AP classes
Honor Society
Leadership and many service hours
4 years Varsity Sport, Ice Hockey
4 years summer job

Interviewed at VMI

PFT:
50 Pushups
48 Situps
6:40 Mile

Gee, a little impatient are we? I'm assuming you dropped a 0 from those SAT scores. You have a shot. No guarantees. Other threads have speculated that about half the scholarships remain to be awarded by the third board. Patience. Deep breaths. Work plans B, C, D, and E so you're ready to execute them if needed.
 
Is your GPA calculated out of 4.0 or is it actually out of 7.0.
 
I was awarded the AROTC scholarship recently. If your GPA is 3.43 out of 4 points, you probably need to raise it to a least a 3.55-3.6. Honors and AP classes help. Your ACT is decent but many people have at least a 25-26. However, your SAT looks alright. They really look for leadership too so the more leadership positions in clubs, the better. Also, they really look for varsity athletics too. The major that interviewed me told me at least 2 varsity letters would do it. Good luck! I would say you would get a 3 year Advance Designee scholarship to one of those schools. I'm using mine at The Citadel.
 
+1 to everything said. You never know what the board is looking for so always shoot for the highest scores, leadership, ect.
 
I don't think there's an option to raise his GPA since he has already been boarded and has been through the first two boards. His application is what it is as far as the next board goes.
 
How much do SATs play in the process and type of school the applicant is going to for GPA? Can't change GPA now. Will this kill his chances?

They look at the WHOLE PERSON SCORE! Leadership, Scholarship, Athletics. No one thing will put him over the top. No one thing, unless it's really bad, will sink him.

Is your FAFSA done? Go work on the FAFSA. Prepare plan B. Then plan C. The application is done. What will happen will happen. You need to game this a bunch of ways. He gets the scholarship, he doesn't get the scholarship, he does AROTC as a college programmer and gets an in-school scholarship, he doesn't get an in-school scholarship....

Don't mean to come across as a hard a$$. Trust me. I've been there and done it. All the worry in the world makes no difference. What did make a difference for us, when we finally got a 'No thanks at this time', was to have plan B ready to go and execute with 2 weeks remaining to do so. Good luck! :thumb:

Yeah you're right. GPA can't change now... But like everyone else said... It's a whole person score and don't worry about it! Worrying won't affect you getting the scholarship. Lots of people have made it through without the scholarship and have become great officers.

Not worrying, just getting as much info as possible on his chances. I know that if it doesn't happen, it is what it is......
