I know that the first round of acceptances/rejections to SLE are not supposed to go out for another week or so, but how do they let you know? Is there a letter/email or is it strictly through the portal? Also, if your file is completed by the first date they posted (I believe it was Feb. 10th) will they definitely let you know one way or the other by then?

Last year my DS received an e-mail on 6 MAR.
 
this might be a stupid question, but you can turn down an offer to any of the summer programs right?
 
Those that they let in under the first look, they should let know with a message on their portal and probably a follow up with an email. It's a rolling system until filled, so they won't let you know you didn't get in right away, you'll just be competing in the next round, and so forth.
 
They look at your file, if you don't make it this round, then you'll be competing against others in the next round, and so on and so forth until every spot is filled.
