Tanks for the Memories

I was a Bradley Infantry Fighting guy, so hate to see the big brother go. but this I agree with the Army.

I don't see Russia, China, or any other countries cranking out modern battle tanks for us to keep up with.

We usually fight the last war, but what's a chance of us fighting in a conflict with tank battles.

Tank is for killing other tanks. Not a good idea to use them as mobile bunkers or supporting Infantry soldiers advancing.

Gee. That's how the tank was born! I would think there might still be some use for them in this area, but even then not much and I wouldn't think we need to be building vast quantities of them. Perhaps not even any and live with the inventory in hand.

Since it's not a money maker, not much discussion about modifying/repurposing them.

I can't remember all the details, but there were concepts on using Bradley Fighting Vehicle chassis for ambulance, fire support vehicle, C2 vehicle (for old timers, M577 type) or putting BFV turrets on M113s. I believe the US Army never purchased Grizzly Engineer vehicle (engineering vehicle using Abrahams chassis). I have seen one M1 Tank towing two M1 tanks.

surely there is a Bob Hope routine in here somewhere.
