I got my acceptance to NASS this morning, and they say I must accept by the 28th. I would really prefer to go to SLE, but my file is still pending for it. There is no way I can afford both, so what should I do? Accept NASS and send in my money or risk not getting to go to either because I would prefer USMA's Summer program?

Thanks all.

I'm in the same boat. Is there a way to ask admissions at WP to change the week I applied?

Why did you apply to both? I would accept NASS by the 28th. Do you have to pay anything before mid-March when the next SLE acceptances go out? If not, then nothing's lost. If you do, then you need to think about whether you'd prefer to do NASS if SLE doesn't come through or nothing at all or sit back and hope for SLE.

You can try. From what I remember last year, if you already accepted one week but changed your mind or had a conflict, they can try to switch you to the other week but it's not guaranteed. You could lose your spot at the week you accepted. Doesn't hurt to ask though.

Some WP societies offer "scholarship" to cadet candidates. If you are okay with sharing your family's financial situation, it might be worth asking a local WP society for assistance.

Sometimes, the West Point Admissions Office assist to find financial assistance for SLE attendance.

I applied to both because I'm interested in both academies. NASS gave me my second choice in week (I can't do session 1 for either because my exams are that week). I'm going to contact admissions at both schools to see if there is anything I can do

If you're interested in both, I would say accept the NASS spot. If they didn't give you your 1st choice date, then it must be filling up. Or you can turn it down, ask for a CVW at USNA and hope to get a spot at SLE. If you don't get SLE and don't accept NASS, you may regret it. If you get SLE & NASS for the same week, you'll need to make a decision. Just throwing out some options.

I hate to take the thread off topic, but could you explain a CVW? It's seems I'm a little behind...

Candidate Visit Weekend at USNA. Check out the threads on the USNA forum. Look at the USNA website. They are by invitation for competitive candidates and a very different experience from NASS (NASS is a marketing tool for the SA; CVW is a one-on-one 2 night experience with current MIDNs). You can request a CVW if you don't receive an invitation.

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it

Hey guys, I wanted to give an update. I've found a source for financial assistance. However, my preference for USMA SLE was week one, 7-13 of June. Week three of USNA NASS is 14-19 of June. If I have the opportunity to attend both, is it feasible? What happens on the last day of SLE and the first of NASS? Are they primarily check-in and check-out days? I'd like to be able to get home for a while to do laundry and spend some time with my family, but I don't know what will happen. Has anyone attended consecutive weeks? Are you planning on it? I appreciate any input.

Thanks!

Barring any dramatic weather, you should be out of SLE by late morning on the final day. There is an awards presentation in the morning and then everyone forms up one last time with all their bags. I don't know the report time for NASS but, it is an easy 6 hour drive in between so making it there shouldn't be a problem.

And I'm sure there is a laundromat somewhere between the two.
