Qualified candidates

Not to post the typical question most people are asking in their head once their application is done- but for those of us who are 3Q'd and nominated, how does the selections process work from here? One person chosen from each pool, demographics? Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated, although at this point I know it is truly a waiting game.

This is how I understand it. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Basically, the first time your package goes to a board, it is with the list of candidates that your nominating source nominated. If your nominating source ranks their list, the academy basically has to take the person who is number 1. If it is not ranked, the board chooses whoever they believe is most qualified. Everybody else is then put into the national pool and competes against everyone else that is there.

That makes sense. Thank you! I also heard if someone is a recruited athlete or has an LOA that would open up a spot? I'm not sure if that is accurate or not.

I haven't heard anything on that. From what I can tell, athletes are a little special so it would surprise me.
