Checked my portal a minute ago and they said that I did not receive a Scholarship in the first board, so I am being reevaluated in March. Anyone else hear back?

Just got a four-year type seven scholarship to the University of Wisconsin for Political Science.

Congrats to all who have received offers!:thumb::thumb::thumb:

To all who are still waiting to hear, do not give up hope...

AFROTC type 7 scholarship

It states the scholarship pays college tuition up to the equivalent of the in-state rate at a public school. What exactly does that mean though?

It means what you would pay in tuition if you were a resident of the state the college is in. For example, if a resident of state X had to pay 8,000 per year at X state college, then a type seven would give 8,000 per year to a person from state Y attending X state college. At least from my understanding that's what it means.

Thanks for the info. I was awarded a type 7 scholarship and was confused with the wording on the website.

Below is straight from the AFROTC website. The way I read it, in order for you to use the type 7 4 year scholarship, you must qualify for the IS rate at the public school you are attending. If you don't qualify for the IS rate then you can convert it to a 3 year Type 2 scholarship. I do not believe that you can "pay the difference" between IS and OOS on a Type 7 scholarship.

type 7 – Pays college tuition up to the equivalent of the in-state rate at a public school and $900 per year for books. If a student receives a Type-7 offer but wishes to attend a college/university where they do not qualify under the guidelines above, the student can convert the four-Year Type-7 scholarship to a three-Year Type-2 scholarship. You cannot activate a Type-7 scholarship at a non-qualifying school and pay the difference.

Rocko is right.

Undead,

It means if your college, private or OOS is more than the cost of IS for a type 7, you are SOL. Freshmen year is on your dime.

You CANNOT pay the difference, only type 2s are offered that option. Hence the reason they offer the type7 conversion 4 year to a type 2 3 year

Cross posted with undead

Yes, starting yr two you can pay the difference, but you get no book allowance or stipend freshmen yr because you have yet to contract.

If a Type 7 is converted to a 3 year/Type 2, and the tuition cost is over $18,000/Yr. you would pay the difference. But keep in mind it is no longer a 4 year scholarship if you convert it but a 3 year scholarship. The first year would be yours to pay. The description of Type 2 is below.

type 2 – Pays college tuition and most fees up to $18,000 and $900 per year for books. Approximately 15% of our four-year scholarship winners will be offered a Type-2 scholarship (mostly in technical fields). If a student attends an institution where the tuition exceeds $18,000 per year, then he/she pays the difference. All three-year scholarships are type 2.

Hockey4ever,

The last board will be March. Nobody here knows if these results are for just Dec., or the combination of boards.

Question for those who just found out they have received an AFROTC scholarship - Are there any of you who did not get your application in in time for the December Board; i.e. January would have been your first Board?

Thanks

Pima,

thanks! but I asked that question for the information of everybody. anyway, my daughter just got a 4 yr type 2. to God be the Glory!!!

I didn't get mine in in time for December but I talked to the det commander and I was offered a Type-1 CS to a west coast private. Always call the det to talk, you never know if they have had their eye on you and have their CS to award.

Yes, the waiver authority is different because the waiver comes from the commissioning source. The same exam will be used, but the AFA will have their board and AFROTC will have theirs. There have been times that an SA and ROTC have come up with opposite answers, but it is not common. I think in all my years here I have seen it twice, never though for AF, doesn't mean it has had not happened, just that I haven't seen it on this site.

Thanks Pima! Daughter had guaranteed spots in USMA and AFA but got denied due to Myopia. She is planning on majoring in ME and hopefully AFROTC will waive her.

Where did you get the notification that you received the scholarship?

DS was notified on his ROTC portal - the same page the application was submitted on. The notification was in red text at the top of the page.

This is all mine says:
Your Air Force ROTC Scholarship interview has been received and processed. Your record will meet the next available selection board, which will be held around the last week of January. You can check back here to find the results of the board which will be released around the middle of February. We will also mail you a notification letter explaining whether or not you have been offered a scholarship.
