DS is on the USAFA Cycling Team.
- They are a Competitive Sports Club not an IC Team. Translation you pay for all your own gear, entrance fees, uniforms, etc
- The Team appears to enjoy each other in addition to the racing. From what we have seen, it is a very supportive team atmosphere. Here is the USAFA Cycling Team FB Page
- They race Div 2. Mountain bike in the Fall and Road in the Spring. Here is their 2013/2014 schedule
- They compete under USA Cycling
From what we have seen, this is a great sport for Freshman. They get to be out riding both on base and off base. The race schedule is not overly intense. A limited number of Freshman can be LOS based on their performance and commitment to the Team. Being LOS means they are exempted from Intramurals and ride during that time. Additionally they are required to have a cell phone while out riding for emergency reasons. So even those Freshman in squads that have restricted access to their phone will have access to it while riding.
Great exercise. Good friends. Healthy competition. Outside in Colorado on great bikes. How can you go wrong?
The teams/clubs have an open house one night after (or at the end of) BCT and you can go from table to table checking out the opportunities. If cycling still interests you, talk to the Team or PM me and I would be glad to answer more questions for you.
