When do prep school appts start rolling out? How are candidates notified?

I got my USNAPS appointment in the mail on February 19th - dated February 6th. My portal still hasn't changed, and I don't think it will, honestly. You get the same big packet with the same fancy folder and letter as someone who got appointed to USNA, but it will say "Naval Academy Preparatory School" instead of just "Naval Academy."

If you receive a sponsorship from AoG( West Point) it will come in an innocent looking brown letter-sized envelope.

IIRC, DS received his the first week of March in 2012.

What were your stats CANNOT BE DISPlAYED? If you don't mind....

GPA: 3.62
Class rank: 2/9
SAT: 640 CR; 670 M; 680 WR
ACT: 34 Eng; 28 Math; 33 Reading; 34 SR; 29 Eng/Writing
No nomination to USNA
CFA scores: Basketball throw 75 ft; Pull ups 9; Shuttle run 8.7; Sit ups 70; Push ups 50; Mile run 6:50

Is there anything else you'd like to know?

Congrats! And thanks so much for the info. I wished my stats looks that good! I was hoping to be competitive for a prep appt....seems I'm still lacking in the SAT area. Congrats again!!!

Congrats on your appointment to NAPS. I am hoping that my DS gets news soon. He didn't get a nomination in our VERY competitive state, yet his admissions officer and B&GO keep telling him that he is a very strong NAPS candidate.

Hopeful. Sounds like your DS has spoken with his admissions officer about NAPS. is he an athlete or anything like that? Were they receptive to discussing the NAPS option?

My DS has always made it know to his admissions officer as well as his B&GO that he is more than open to NAPS. Being from Maryland and as competitive as he is on paper he knew that USNA was a long shot even though he worked for years on his goal. He has plans C and D in place and waiting to hear from NROTC but he has stated that he would choose NAPS if offered an appointment. No he is not a recruited athlete. STATS: GPA 4.25 weighted 24 in his class of 375. SAT 700 math 550 CR. AP Calc II AP Chem....His SAT CR score keeps him in the NAPS running according to his admissions officer. After NASS he felt very good but never was able to improve on the CR score after 2 attempts.

Thx for the quick response. My DS has just about the same stats and has told his BGO and admissions that he would welcome NAPS. He has plans b/c/d im place and waiting NROTC too. We are in NJ. very competitive Guess like everyone, we just have to wait...and wait....and wait!

I know, at least for the Air Force, we are in a big cutting phase. Many ROTC attachments and such are getting cut compleatly for the moment. That being said, if the academy is something you really want to do: keep trying, the only thing stoping you is the age limit.

Making A Decision

Hey Everyone,

I was just curious if you don't hear back from one of the SA's before May 1st which is the deadline for responding whether you will attend a college, do colleges understand if you are waiting to hear back from a SA? Thank you!

They would rather you accept to the college and then withdraw for SA appt than to wait until the end of time to accept their offer.

Hello everyone. New poster and mom of a hopeful DS prepster from USMMA to NMMI. Wanted to check in and see if anyone else had gotten word of NMMI Acceptance this week.

My DS called admissions today and they said they had no info yet from the committee. I'm hopeful to hear word soon as he has been selected by his plan C and they are pushing for acceptance since they want him in their summer semester.

Knoxcap,

I was notified throughout the portal on Thursday that I was appointed to NMMI. However, do not lose hope because my admissions officer emailed me about a week ago and said the process (he thinks) would not be complete until at least April 21st! I hope this helps. Best of luck you.

My son from Mississippi will be attending NAPS.

Hello everyone. DS is still waiting as the first, second and third deadline he was given has gone by for an offer at NMMI for USMMA. New deadline, the 2nd or 3rd week of May per admissions. He was told he was a contender for NMMI a month ago.

The roller coaster has been a trip so far. DS received a nom from our Congressman to all 4 academies with USMMA being his first choice and USNA his second. Received the dreaded TWE from USNA but moved right along. A&M Corp of Cadets is his next choice and has started that direction just in case.

I hope those that have made it to this point are getting a small breather and hoping we will get to join you all real soon. Thanks for your support :).
