Anyone know if juniors are eligible for the CVWs? My son got an invitation but doesn't have 50% of his application complete although he did apply and get accepted to NASS. Thinking maybe the email invite was in error? How could he have 50% complete when the app isn't even available till April 1?

Yes, definitely. My DS went in April of his junior year and didn't attend/get accepted into NASS. Take advantage of it! It is a different experience from NASS - more one-on-one. Admissions saw something in your DS's preliminary application to be accepted to NASS and get a CVW invitation.

I actually did receive an invite to a CVW I go on April 24th and I'm also a Junior.

And yes I have applied to NASS and I'm still waiting whether I get accepted or not.

It is completely possible for Juniors to go to a CVW. I'm currently junior and I will be attending one in April.

I believe that once you submit your NASS application, you can be offered a spring CVW as a Junior. After that though, the whole application completion thing comes into effect again for rising seniors for the fall CVW's.

Can those invited as juniors from their NASS application be invited again as seniors in the fall? My son is attending the Feb CVW next weekend.

I think the academy would only want you to attend one CVW. The purpose is to expose you to USNA. Going twice would limits USNA's ability to accomodate others. Now, if you can't attend when they invite you, admissions is pretty good at offering alternative dates. My DD did both NASS and CVW. She enjoyed both, booth got more out of the CVW.

2 CVWs

My DD attended CVW in April as a junior, and again in January as a senior. After she accepted her second invitation, she requested to be placed with a plebe from the track or cross country teams so she could also see and participate in practice. Take advantage of any invitations and your time there! Ask lots of questions, and participate in classes. CVW gives a more realistic feel of the Academy than NASS because all the Midshipmen are there, and most are eager to share their expereinces. My DD really has a good grasp of life at the Academy and cannot wait for July.

Is your DD a recruited athlete? I'm surprised she went twice, and was given two invitations. Was the track/cc aspect the main/only reason for going a 2nd time?

My son did not get accepted to NASS last year but within a few days of hearing that news he was invited to a CVW last spring. He had some sports conflicts and could not attend last spring but he received an appointment in November. He finally did an overnight visit this January.

He initially thought not being invited to attend nass was a bad omen for him. Obviously he was wrong.

My DD is not a recruited athlete. After her second invitation, she said she would like to return as long as she did not take anyone else's spot, so that's when she asked to stay with a cross country or track athlete. She received her LOA in October, passed her CFA and received her congressional nomination (2D-MD) in November, and her medical clearance 2 weeks ago. Her feeling after the spring CVW was that candidates from MD rarely go to NASS because of their proximity to Annapolis, and get invited to CVW instead. The second CVW invitation came in January so it was a bonus!

Attended the CVW this past weekend and was very surprised. My estimate was that about 200 kids attended. They had the seniors break out and there were only 20 or so seniors -- the vast majority were juniors.

My son was also there this past weekend. He really enjoyed it and reinforced that this is how he wants to spend his life. It was a great eperience for him. Still waiting to hear back about NASS.
