SLE or Girls State?

I have already been accepted to the Air Force Academy's Summer Seminar (session A), but I am still waiting on West Point.

In Minnesota, Girls State and SLE (session 2) are the same week.

If given the opportunity, which should I attend?

-I have a lot of leadership roles in school activities already.
-3.99 GPA (Only a 24 ACT though)
-Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Track

If those would affect your decision.

Thanks in advance!

If you already have a desire for the academy and know you don't need to visit it to make your decision about whether or not you're serious about it, then Girls State. Girls State adds points to your whole candidate score. SLS is there for prospective candidates to find out whether they want to go to said academy or not. Both are great experiences.

My vote....

Girls State! You get points that will go towards your WCS. SLE does not.

HowardKat,
Search on here for all of the threads referencing "Boy's State" and substitute Girl's State. The advice would be the same.

RC indicated that boys/girl state is equivalent in points to student council president.

ACT & State

Don't worry about your ACT score now. What I would do is buy a large practice book and work with some teachers in any area you really struggle in after school once and a while. I did that and my score went from a 26 to a 32, and I bet you could see the same improvement(take the test as much as possible). I got in on a 32 and a 3.6 GPA, so I would say with around a 30 and 4.0 you will be well off. It will take effort but it will be well worth it!

As for the SLS, I was rejected for both the USMA and USNA ones. Not attending it will not hurt your application, whereas State will definitely exemplify your leadership and character.

I wish you the best of luck!

:thumb: P.S. You're off to a great start!

I agree ... Girls State. and if you are selected as an alternate to Girls State take that. in my area, the American Legion posts always seem to find a way to include the alternates even if there is not a vacancy! It is a really generous group!

I will throw in here...had the same question about my DS. He has been accepted to both Boys State and SLE. He called his RC to ask and after the RC looked through my DS's leadership credentials in his record - he recommended SLE.

So great great advice on this question from all but what I would add is - have a discussion with your RC/FFR before you make your final decision because every candidate has different strengths so the answer may not always be so cut and dry. Just my two cents!

Best of luck!

Does that mean girls state will not add points since I am already student council president?

Depends...while leadership is not cumulative, WP does recognize that being a leader of several challenging positions is better than just one and they take that into account in their assessment of your potential. I would take JWP's advice...when it is decision time, have that conversation with your RC.

Thanks everyone for the advice!
