A while back i was accepted into VMI and was told it was normal admissions, not early decision. Recently, I received two letters from VMI that say differently. The first letter is from the Financial Aid Office that says I have been appointed to the VMI class of 2013 under the early decision program. The other was from the Parent's Council that alludes to this too.

I, my parents, nor my guidance counselor signed anything regarding a binding agreement like Early Decision. I was also told through an email from someone at the admissions office a few months ago that my application was normal, not early decision.

Could this be a mistake on the part of VMI?

Even though VMI is one of my top preferences, I do not want to be binded to any school yet.

Rather than speculate I would suggest that you contact the VMI admissions office and talk with them directly. If you don't believe that you actually applied and signed a binding ED agreement - then you need to talk with the Admissions Office and clarify that.

i also have a question about VMI admissions, but i did not think it was necessary to start a new thread.

on monday i received a letter in the mail from the superintendent that i was offered a conditional appointment...blah blah..hope i accept. this is the first and only thing i have heard from VMI.. so what exactly should i be looking for?

It is a conditional appointment? What conditions do you have to satisfy? That is where I would start, if you want to attend VMI, get to work on satisfying the conditions if they are up to you. Good luck, and congratulations!!!

The conditional appointment basically is an acceptance with the assumption that you don't tube out of your last semester (ie- you still have to graduate!), that you don't get yourself in serious legal trouble or get hurt in such a way that you would not be able to participate in the Rat line. Beyond that - you are in. I hope that you are happy and excited - if this is what you want then you are going to be in for an interesting, challenging and ultimately rewarding "ride".
My suggestion is that you plan on going to the Summer Transition Program (STP) that will run for the month of July. It's an excellent opportunity to get a course out of the way so you have 3 less credit hours to deal with your first semester of your Rat year; while getting very close attention from a professor in a core subject; plus you will get a good physical conditioning program to get a base for the challenges to come starting in August. Finally you will get a chance to meet your future classmates while it is just you and no upperclassmen. It is not the Ratline, but it's a good transitional step and I don't know anyone who thought it was anything other than positive. About 50+% of the Ratclass will attend.

Again- GOOD LUCK!

thank you very much! if i don't get my appointments to west point or air force, then i'll be there!
