Completed the app 3 weeks ago (took forever, 5 weeks, to get my transcripts to show up). Status changed to the dreaded hold this afternoon. I have seen conflicting accounts as to what this means... I kinda think USMMA doesn't have a clue what to do with a candidate who has such an odd education...

Also, I am one of 2 in my district of CT nominated...

Plan B is now Navy NUPOC... This makes sense for me because:

I can transfer all of my community college courses (I have 1/2 a B.S. worth) to CCSU and go for 5-6 semesters... And once I have a graduation date within 24 months I can apply to NUPOC and get the same end result as USMMA (sans the regiment, and CG license, and awesomeness)...

So, anyone have any advice/experience with NUPOC... And what "hold" actually means.

Hold means you are on the waiting list, both for your state and nationally. You can remain on Hold until May as those who have been offered appointments mull over their decision.

Ref definition of “Hold”, are you suggesting that all principal appointments were given before the application period closed last Friday (Feb 28)? There are a number of candidates that have been on hold for months. I can certainly understand giving early appointments for the most competitive candidates, (e.g. – national merit scholars, class valedictorians with 760/760 SAT scores, etc.), especially since other SA’s and colleges are also in the hunt for top kids with their rolling admissions programs. But, surely they didn’t award all appointments on an early basis before the application deadline…

Isn’t it more accurate to say that the ‘hold’ list is a compilation of competitive candidates, in ranked order, who will then be evaluated for state/national slots immediately after the application window closed. Many of these will fill principal appointment slots, without having to wait until they are vacated. Perhaps I read too much into your note, (and if so I apologize), but your note seems to imply that the ‘hold’ candidates are only those who will essentially act as alternates to principal candidates who make non-USMMA choices.

I presume that since the application window is now closed, that USMMA admissions will finalize the stacking and sorting process to fill all open principal appointments (from the ‘hold’ list), as well as pulling the next competitive candidate from the “hold” list to fill slots vacated by principal candidates who make a non-USMMA choice. My sense is that the dust from this process will settle in the next few weeks.

I talked with admissions today and they said that there are two things: at the moment there are more qualified candidates who they're tendering appointments to, and that the most of the applications have yet to be evaluated, this will happen by the end of March.

Also, isn't waiting fun!

Mariner-Pilot,
"Good things come to those that wait". It's tough to be patient, but I think you still have a very good chance at appointment. I read your other thread and you present to me as being well qualified. You seem to be a highly motivated man with great SAT scores. I like the JC work you have done and I admire your willingness to start over as KP freshman. You have good CFA scores proving that you are in good physical condition. So, it wouldn't surprise me if you were eventually appointed. Pray about it, maybe that's all you need.:thumb:

Saying NUPOC and KP yield the same results is ludicrous.

The entire focus of all four years at KP is so you can get the license. I understand both are paths to a commission but KP is a very unique track, it makes you immensely qualified for some jobs but it makes you less competitive for others. Think hard about why you want to go to KP. If you want to be a Nuclear Officer in the Navy go do NUPOC if you want to sail commercially go to KP. These two tracks are at very different ends of the spectrum. I don't know of anyone who's graduated from KP and gone to the Nuclear navy in the last 2 years.

If KP was your plan A, why wasn't one of the State Maritime Academies your plan B?

I think that process is pretty common with KP. DS had his application done back in November and was placed on hold until nom came through in January. Received his call from MOC and package showed up two days later. Hang In There!

Also, isn't waiting fun!

Was on "Hold" status with no TWE or BFE all thru May. Didn't get the TWE rejection until first week in June. June 15th I believe. Hopefully a State Maritime Academy is one of your alternatives in hand! Good Luck ... the waiting is just plain awful!

Well, your SAT combo score is above the average for the Class of 2017. As a result, assuming the other components of your application are above average as well, I don't see any impediment on your way to getting an appointment offer. It's odd though that you were placed on hold.

Hold status

I am also from Ct and status changed to hold this week. Just wondering if there is some way to find out how many candidates there are from Ct? Should I be getting a letter in the mail, does anyone know? Also is it procedure for the politician to call granting the appointment? :smile:Thank you.

Well, to see the candidates from CT I just googled "service academy nomination CT" There was one other person in CT-05 nominated... I don't know about the rest of the state. Might I ask what district you are from?

Can you share with me where exactly you found that information. I can only find an old press release from Sen Blumenthal for 2011. Thank you

My son (Mississippi) status was changed to "On Hold". Was told they had to finish his region, before they would send out nom. They explained this to him when he attended the football recruit weekend mid Jan.
