Mailing appointment paperwork

For those who already have the BFE (or got it years ago) how did you mail back the signed paperwork and birth certificate? Did you just use the enclosed postage paid envelope? We only have 1 copy of DS's birth certificate and plan on enclosing the return SASE so when we'd get it back we know that they received the paperwork. My husband thinks that maybe we should track the envelopes. Is he just being overly paranoid?

If I remember correctly, I sent everything back in the envelope provided and returned it certified mail. Read and follow the directions carefully (different deadlines for things) and you will be fine. I also made copies of everything I sent and DS brought them to I-day, just incase something was missing or misplaced. Also, I ordered another original birth certificate via the registar recorders office, in case something happened to the one I sent (you have plenty of time to get a back up).

I always send important documents with tracking. You can send a flat rate envelope via USPS for ~$5. Yes, more expensive than a stamp, but you get e-mail updates and you can see online exactly where the package is. I would send something like an original birth certificate, which can be replaced but is a pain, with tracking. To me $5 is worth knowing where the envelope ends up.
 
We sent it back in the envelope provided with a SASE. It came back in less than 2 weeks.
 
I mailed everything back in the envelopes they provided. I got a certified copy of DS's birth certificate because I did not want to send original through the mail.
The town police called me to let me know that they had sent his paperwork from their end.

I would never send my only copy of a birth certificate to anyone, anywhere, by any means.
 
How long did it take to get the Birth Certificate back in the mail? I sent mine out two weeks ago and haven't received anything back yet.
 
We sent regular mail with an original birth certificate but ordered additional copies. DS followed up via email to make sure all was processed.
 
Get a 2nd Birth Certificate

DS used the envelope provided and enclosed a SASE. I didn't really pay much attention, but I think he received the birth certificate back in 2 or maybe 3 weeks, tops.

But . . . I had ordered another original birth certificate for him to send so I wasn't really worried about it. It is so simple to get another certificate these days with the internet, and you get it pretty fast. I think I did pay an extra fee for faster shipping because DS was anxious to return his acceptance paperwork.

Highly recommend a 2nd certificate.
 
Excuse my ignorance, but is a certified copy of the birth certificate the same thing as an original one? That's all my health dept offers.

Last year DS called admissions to confirm that a notarized copy was acceptable and was told yes, so that's what we did. Have not heard anything else about it from USNA.

I'm not sure if county health departments call it a "Certified copy", but rather a 'duplicate'. It is the same as the original. The key is the "raised seal" that they put on it. A simple photocopy, with some sort of signature will not suffice. It has to have the raised seal for it to be 'official'. Getting an extra copy of a birth certificate is relatively inexpensive.

And, per a previous post, it is very prudent to have an extra -- not just one original. And, I would never put my one and only original birth certificate in the mail or express mail service -- especially with the problems with identify theft today.
 
Sent DS birth certificate (original--we have two). Was back in just a few weeks.
 
The paperwork my DS received indicated that a notarized copy of her birth certificate was sufficient and that is what we sent. So far so good.
