Okay, I need some serious insight from past, present, and future cadets/midshipman. I am severely interested in pursuing a career in aviation with the Air Force. However, my vision is not 20/20, but it is correctable to 20/20.

I got accepted to NAPS and am awaiting a response from the AFA. My heart has always been with the Air Force (I'm almost infatuated with it to say the least), but I am willing to consider other options.

Two questions:
1.) what are the Navy's eye sight policies for pilots?

2.) if I do not qualify for naval aviation, should I take the ROTC route and try to fly for Air Force that way?

I really need some opinions and options. I have the option of attending Texas A&M and doing the Corps there (which is an excellent program).

Any thoughts? Aviation is where my heart is at.

-Thanks

The answer depends, in part, on what your uncorrected eyesight is. Google knows all: http://www.med.navy.mil/sites/nmotc.../1_Waiver_Guide_Physical_Standards_130530.pdf

Personally, if AFA doesn't come through then I think NAPS is a no brainer over any other path.

EDIT: Oh yeah... like the new avatar! :thumb:

Thanks!! I'm not sure where my vision stands, I need to look through my records again.

And true. My grandpa's friend who went to USNA and taught at NAPS will be flying down from his place to come talk to me next week. I should gain valuable insight from him!

Bout the avatar...Thank you! Muaha :)

SOME out of standards vision problems can be wavered. I have pretty terrible vision, but it corrects to 20/17 or so. I got a waiver at USAFA and now fly helicopters.

It is possible, but it depends on the specifics of your vision issues.
