Ladies and Gents familiar with all things Merchant Marine:

Is there such a thing as a federally-recognized and prescribed uniform that is available for wear for any licensed officer in the U.S. Merchant Marine? I know that on the various ships, guys wear what the company requires, but was just curious as to if, say, a licensed Mate/Engineer could wear a "US Merchant Marine Uniform" at a ceremony or something.

This is separate from those MM officers appointed to the USMS.

I don't think there is such a thing, but was in a conversation where it came up. My Google searching only comes up with USMS uniforms (which is limited to officers at USMMA, State Maritime schools and a few others, yes?).

I was an Air Force officer so this is out of my area.

Thanks

There is nothing federally recognized but a typical Merchant Marine uniform would consist of either a fouled anchor (deck officer) or propeller (engineering officer) over the appropriate number of stripes depending on license.
