Okay so I didn't get an AROTC scholarship so I'm moving on to plan B which is working hard for an on-campus scholarship or doing SMP. My question is would it be ill advised to go to basic before my freshmen year? Because I wouldn't have an rotc contract so technically I could be deployed? Is that correct?

If you enlisted with the National Guard and then go to Basic Training and AIT then yes you can be deployed. You become un-deployable when you contract with the ROTC at your school.

If I go to basic but not AIT can I be deployed?

You are not deployable unless you attend both BCT and AIT.

Be aware that if you do not attend both BCT and AIT, you will not be eligible for the GI Bill or the Kicker.
