Good Morning,

Long story short ... DS is 2Q/PNom for USMA waiting on a medical waiver. Also has 4-year AROTC scholarship to TAMU. Just learned this morning that DS can apply for a separate AROTC medical waiver through Cadet Command Surgeons and we were encouraged to send all our DS medical files to them ASAP to get the process started. Has anyone been down this road? Would appreciate guidance.

AROTC will request the waiver on his behalf if they deem him competitive. While it's up to them to do it, your DS would be well advised to contact the ROO at TAMU and make sure the process is initiated. As I've read on this forum multiple times, no one cares about his career more than he does. It's a good time for him to start!

?? What is ROO? DS has been in contact with TAMU Recruiting Officer and he said: "If USMA denies your waiver, you can still pursue a waiver through Cadet Command. I recommend you forward all your medical documents to the Cadet Command Surgeons office for review so that you have both actions going."

That's all we have so far.

paulycowgirl, the AROTC waiver process is supposed to be automatic but I would follow up.
1) look up your DS DoDMERB account, that will show which branch and unit has requested a waiver review.
2) If AROTC has requested a waiver review call the folks at CC. I did this last year and found them to be very helpful and professional.
3) Start gathering all of DS medical records that have anything to do with the medical condition he was DQ'd for and be ready to send them to DoDMERB.

Keep in mind they are swammped right now so patience is the key. Good Luck, and congrats to your DS.

You don't need to send his medical records at this time, unless you have something new and relevant. Everything he has submitted to this point is in the DODMERB system. If Cadet Command wants to see his records they can. If they don't see something they think they need, they will ask. If they think they need a doctor to look at you again, or do a different test they will send you. I am not sure why that Recruiting Officer/ROO didn't take a little more ownership of the process. If you were coming to Clarkson I would have been all over helping you get your waiver/making sure it was happening. Keep in mind this will take some time. You may have to take some risk and send in deposits before you know for certain you will/won't get your waiver.

Thanks for the input. Certainly lots to learn... According to DS' DODMERB portal USMA, USNA, and ROTC are all pending/waiver review. CC email informed us that waiver process is underway and we will learn results from DODMERB. Do the different agencies a share the remedials and other medical records?

As for timing, I was under the impression that USMA required the waiver by April 15th...true? Are you saying it might take longer??? TAMU acceptance deadline is May 1st? Are you suggesting he may need to accept at one school only to decline later when the waiver results come in? USMA is where he wants to be, but don't want to lose Plan B (TAMU) waiting on a waiver.

Appreciate your wisdom.
