So I heard that there are some rooms with up to three cadets staying in them. I was wondering if anybody knew how well that was working, or if it was any different that just two? Just curious. Also, how is the environment between all of the cadets there, I have heard some different stories on that topic.

Currently it's more the norm to have three unless you get lucky. But exceptions happen.

Until the new barracks is finished and existing renovated it will probably remain the norm. The stated intention is to try to get back to 2 cadets per room though.

Most appear to be pretty snug with three, but all the ones I've seen were larger than typical civvy traditional dorm rooms. And it's not like you are allowed to keep additional furniture, fridges, etc.

Not to mention that when I was a plebe, I lived in Pershing, where there were 4 to a room! (But the rooms in pershing are gigantic.) Anyways, if you're looking for personal space, pray you're not in Grant barracks. :yllol:

A lil togetherness.....

You may or may not get along with your roomies. The issue is learning how to live with others who may be really different from you. Conflict management will be a skill you must master for the rest of your adult career. There are some youtube videos of SAMIs to give you an idea.

I am currently a plebe with 2 other roommates and I can say there are pros and cons, though the cons outweigh the pros.

Pros:
Homework help readily available if needed
SAMI cleaning is easier (more manpower)
More people to talk to

Cons:
More noise (during ESP)
Less personal space
Less storage space (worst con)

In the end though all of us plebe are pretty close and go into each others' rooms pretty frequenty, so besides doing homework or trying to use the sink when getting ready in the morning, it isn't too much different than two in a room.

Good info, thanks!

As a firstie in a 3 man room(oh the indignity!) in the grant slums, it's not so bad. Space isn't really a concern, my roommates and I get along, and nobody is a jerk to each other. Just focus on building a good relationship with your roommates, and you'll have a fine time. There are more good ones than bad.

Great post linkgmr...lived in a gp medium
with 16 other soldiers for close to a year and strong relationships were key. Might as well learn to live in close quarters now as this will be commonplace for you and more importantly...for the soldiers you will be leading in a few years....
