New Commander of 101st Airborne Division

AASLT CG

Back in the early 1980's the CG was not AASLT (AASLT only started in the mid/late 1970's). He was a BIG guy and was going through a "gentleman's" course. He knees did not do well coming off the tower and I don't think he ever actually finished. Later, he became the Corps Commander. Every three months he would jump into a body of water. Great leader, but his body wasn't up to it. I once heard that more Division Commander's were relieved in WW2 because of exhaustion/physical fitness than incompetence.

"Fat Jack MacMull". I was in the 101st at the time when he blew out his knee on the rappelling wall. He was quite a sight driving around Ft Campbell in his jeep with his right leg in a full cast.

LOL

I was trying to be nice and not use names . I was the 3rd Bde Cdr's driver (Dawkins/Lehardy). Jack was a good guy, but it was kind of funny.

really? I was there same time in same Bde - 2/503.

101st

I was in B 3/187th 79-80 and then HHC Bde 80-81. Smoking Joe Kinzer, Dave Bramblett (sic?) and crew. Was a great assignment. Went to USMAPS in 81.

I think "Smoking Joe Kinzer" was the greatest Battalion Comander I ever saw- he knew how to motivate every guy in the Battalion, he knew virtually every job in the Bn and had done most of them (He was an E7 before going to OCS), and knew virtually every soldier in that Battalion- and he knew how to build a team out of his officers and also knew how to let his NCO's do their jobs. Even when he was reaming you out -you knew that you were only getting what you deserved and you learned from it. He was a really great Officer:thumb:

Joe

I thought Kinzer was great. He actually ended up being a U. of Tampa grad (my sons college). Joe got me into the 82nd as a young captain. Bruno, I think we have to many connections. lol Have a great night.
