Dad of a DD USNA 2019 Candidate

Thank you, Jamzmom for the warm welcome. It's greatly appreciated.

I've been reading through this forum for several weeks now and the information has been invaluable - not to mention I am finally able to read the forum without constantly referencing The Acronym List.

DD came to us as a sophomore and told us she was interested in enlisting after high school. I told her that with her academic record and leadership skills, why not apply to the USNA? We visited this past July and after soaking in all the history and the women in leadership roles, she was hooked.

DD is attending NASS 3rd Session and is very excited, to say the least.

SAT 650V 700M taking them again in June
Ranked 8th in class
Honors & AP Courses
National Honor Society
Nominated by faculty for Girls State
6 Varsity Letters, 2 cross-country, 4 swim team, co-captain 2 years, captain of the girls squad
ECAs are off the charts, including every music and art program, government, academic and volunteer clubs - leadership roles in several.
Also works as a waitress.

And after writing all that, I don't know how she does it... but what makes me most proud as her dad - she is a kind and humble young lady. We are lucky, as are all of the parents sharing stories and information in this forum.

Good luck. Your DD's stats look great. Hang on for a long bumpy ride. The next year will be filled with LOADS of ups and downs.

Congrats to you, at the beginning of a very long journey to appointment! It is an unbelievable ride from SS to the BFF finally arriving. My DD has eerily similar "stats" and it went very well for her. She started out convinced that USNA was her goal, attends SS and loved it. A visit to WP and subsequent athlete weekend visit "clouded" the decision. In the end, she followed her heart. Good luck!

Just a quick FYI: those of us on these threads have learned that even though admissions is rolling it appears to be in the best interest of the candidate to get applications in as EARLY as possible!

Make sure your daughter also applies for the NROTC Scholarship, this is another great option if she does not receive an appointment or decides that the USNA is not what she wants. She may also want to check out the other Service Academies and ROTC Scholarships and programs as well, she can apply to as many as she likes.

Read on these threads that having a strong back up plan if SA doesn't work out is helpful in you MOC interviews. DS had NROTC to UCLA as backup--not certain if it helped--sure does ease your mind having plan "B" squared away.

Again, thanks for the information - we have been looking at NROTC and starting the conversation today about other SAs as well. DD has already stated that she will reapply after her freshman year should she not get an appointment out of high school.
