Could someone please explain to me what Parents' Weekend looks like as far as scheduling is concerned, generally? Is it one day or two days? How long do plebes get to see their parents?

In the PTR packet, there is a whole schedule about it.

It is a long weeknd Aug 8 - 10. The "kids" get liberty with the parents and can go out of the yard in uniform. Some want to go to the mall, some want to sleep, some will just be happy with some freedom. If I remember correctly, they sleep at USNA, but will spend time during the day with parents.

It is a TERRIFIC weekend and most parents (and mids) would tell you that, other than Commissioning week, this is the very best WE/time to visit USNA in the entire 4 years. It is not to be missed, unless of course you absolutely, positively cannot attend for financial or medical reasons.

There are some organized activities but, for the most part, it's a chance for you to hang out with your kid and him/her with you.

There are lots of threads on this from last year about PPW if you search this forum.

The detailed schedule is not in this year's PTR - only that it will be sent to parents by mid-July and posted on-line June 1.

I did see last year's detailed schedule and assume based on that schedule that this year there will be parent/family activities starting evening of 7 August (check-in, name tags, etc). Plebes will have liberty during the day from around 12-12:30 Friday to 10 pm Friday night, late morning to 11 or 12 Saturday night and Sunday morning from around 8-8:30 am to 6 pm. This is all from memory but should be directionally accurate!

We are booked hotel Thurs night through Sat night since we are just 4 - 5 hr drive from USNA.

PPW

My DS is Plebe this year. We drove to PPW last Summer so that we could bring lots of fun family activities and any supplies our DS needed....likes contacts, hygiene products, extra plastic containers. etc. We arrived Wednesday night and were treated by seeing the Plebes line up for an evening event. Lots of Kodak moments. We attended all activities from Thursday until Sunday. Do not miss a moment. DS also invited another Plebe from his company to join us for the weekend (since he lived on the West Coast and his family could not attend). We had an awesome time. Let your Plebe decide what they want to do. But one suggestion I have is to allow them to take an extra long shower...something that they have not had since starting Plebe Summer...I brought his favorite body soap and extra toothbrushes...boy was this a treat for him!

Keep an eye on this web page for updates. You will read about much info on this forum. I would advise one not to consider that info official until USNA says it is. Their website is a good place to start. Cheers.

SAhope,

PM me and I can answer any specifics. A few hints:

1. Comfort is key - loose, athletic clothing and your most comfortable pair of tennis shoes, hats, sunglasses and sunscreen, think theme park here
2. Water - bring a few bottles for you/fam and your STAR
3. Anticipate an hour ahead with everything e.g. parking, transportation, food and especially night return time. You do not want to stress out your STAR by getting them back late - think airport here
4. Your plebe will want to sleep, its their time, not yours, don't get your feelings hurt if they look/feel exhausted, let them nap - then talk their head off
5. Hug them as much as possible and make plans to attend football games!

There's a hundred more of these tips on the forums, congratulations!

PS: visit last years page, it has a schedule that mirrors '16 weekend

I'm already looking forward to this.

We have quite crew coming out for I-Day. But there's a good chance this might be just me and my husband with her. We plan to let her do whatever she wants. But, if I were to bet on this, I bet a long bath, and sleep - maybe going to the movies.
