Just wondering, in my PTR package it says I am to report to USNA at 0945, does that mean that others reporting at 0945 are in my company (whichever company that may be)? And then those report at a different time are in a different company? Or does everyone report at the same time?

Called my DS in Annapolis this evening to wish him a happy Easter and asked him about this question. He is 2/C so he's a little removed from the plebe year. He does not believe that everyone reporting at a certain time is in the same company. He said you don't really have any time to talk to anyone when reporting and that you are really busy going from one station to the next. He said he didn't talk to anyone until he was in his room in Bancroft and spent time with his plebe summer roommate folding uniforms. Eventually you line up with your platoon and company, but not at the beginning of I Day.

A little tip for the career you are about to embark upon: Stop trying to figure out the rhyme or reason of what the military does. There is no point in spending time doing it, and you will never arrive at a valid conclusion anyway.

Again, it’s just a tip.

So true!

Especially for the duration of Plebe Summer, but also for most of the next four years you should plan on surrendering much of the control of your daily life.

Definitely follow the advice that's given, but report time has nothing to do with what company you're in.

9:45 report time

Our DS had a report time of 9:45, which we learned later was one of the later report times. It doesn't matter in the big scheme of things, but I do remember that he missed lunch. When most were going to lunch, he was still being processed in, and didn't get his things to his room until close to 4:00pm. The day passed in a blur for him, but he was glad he had eaten breakfast, and was starving when we saw him after the swearing in ceremony (6:00 or so if I remember correctly). I was glad that I had been advised to have Gatorade and a snack when we saw him - he didn't need a lot because they were headed to dinner right afterwards, but he enjoyed having a few granola bars and something to drink. So encourage breakfast, and toss something portable (not chocolate, which will melt in the heat) in your bag! Congrats!

Perfect advice. This goes for your time at USNA and while on Active Duty. There will be so many things you can't control. You learn quickly to worry about the things you can control. It will be worse when you get to the fleet. Deployment dates will shift, they will be extended, you will deploy early, it will be delayed, PCS moves will be changed, etc. These can have huge impacts because you may have a wedding planned, miss the birth of a child, have to sell a home unexpectantly. USNA will prepare you well for the rumor mill, changing of plans and dealing with the unexpected when you hit the fleet.

The reporting time has nothing to do with your company assignement; the times are assigned randomly. Also, the earlier the report time seemed to be better; they do provide lunch; some some will not have time to eat. The earlier you finally make it to your room, the more time you'll have to start putting your stuff away.

Best thing to do is eat a good breakfast and have your parent(s) bring something easy and fast to eat for you after swearing in. I asked my DS what he remembered of that first day, he said it was a blur, he didn't remember much, he said he didn't even remember eating the sandwich we brought him.

Also, when my DS arrived to check in there was no one waiting in line; so if you were waiting around for your time the staff pretty much encouraged you to start the process. The times are spread out so there is a smooth flow of plebes moving through the system. If you arrived a little early I don't think there will a problem with starting the process before your check-in time. It seemed to be very relaxed in front of Alumni Hall on I-Day; it's after you enter those doors, that things seemed to gradually change. Early is good, late....well, you probably could imagine how your day will progress.... :frown:
