Report times for c/o 2018 CC are in the 3rd Admissible Mailing on your portal. My DS is in the first - 6:45 am. It's going to be a long day for both of us.

Same here. What is the difference between reporting earlier and later besides time? I mean, what do the people that report earlier do with their extra time?

Report Times...

I know its early, but I think the earlier the better. You'll notice your Cadet Candidate will get short with you, snippy, rude, mouthy-Don't take it personally. Its a big unknown for the whole family. Don't let it ruin your day, your CC is just putting on his game face.

There will be all kinds of things to do on R-Day. Dont forget to purchace your tote bag.

Tote bag? Nobody has said anything about this? Do tell.

Yup, tote....

They will have goodies to purchase like t-shirts, shorts, jackets and "the tote".
The tote bag is pretty kewl, it has all of the names for the Class of 2018. They will also have a t-shirt too. This is the only time it will be offered. Once they sell out that's it. You won't see it at A-Day

Report Times.....

It's just to stagger the CC coming in. Can you imagine the chaos of 1200 CC plus their families all at once

Okay, so Candidate A enters at 0645, candidate B enters at 0845, Candidate A finishes processing either in the morning or afternoon or whatever the whole process is, but candidate A is 2 hours ahead of candidate B, what do they do with the time. Or will candidate A just continue learning formation, drills, marching, etc. the entire time?

Your reference to purchasing the tote, jackets, etc is for parents, correct?

@mom

Yes. Once you report to your time you'll wait in a long line. You'll go into Ike Hall with a briefing that is about 10 mins long then you get your 90 seconds. Then the crying begins, the abrupt cutting of the cord, the realization " my CC is in the Army", and all issues your CC will have must be solved on their own. Then you are escorted out for the next group to begin. You enter a large area where you can meet all the other stunned families you have meet of FB. And cry some more. Don't worry there will be plenty of dads breaking down.

The next time you see and smell your CC will be A-Day. Then they would be accepted in the Corps of Cadets

@Cadet85

I can't tell you everything about R-Day. It will take the mystery away from you, it's something you'll have to experience. Remember every member of the Long Gray Line had to endure R-Day.

Let me say from Tug_Boat... I'm very proud you Cadet85. I am in the very very large crowd that envies you. Good Luck!!

AWWW . Haha. Well, thanks! I guess I will shut up with the questions and embrace the experience. :thumb:

Ditto on the tote bag. My wife still wishes she got one but never did. It does not come back. In our time it ended up being brought back by many to Plebe Parent Weekend for moms to carefully pack away their class-year gift wine glasses, and while it isn't the end of the world if you miss one, it is one of those items that have very limited availability.

Kind of like a cadet parka. Parents can buy them for themselves and have them dressed up with class year patches and such during Plebe Parents weekend. Many folks loved them. Personally, I thought they were the scratchiest apparel I'd come across and passed on them, as did many others, but from a keepsake perspective, again one of those cool-lectibles that can be fun to hang on to.

Me, I'm looking forward to maybe getting a saber from my cadet next year at graduation. Hope that happens.

YMMV.

Best,
RLTW

Or will candidate A just continue learning formation, drills, marching, etc. the entire time?

They have a special lounge for candidates who finish their R-day drama early? :)

Based on anecdotal feedback from cadets the last 4 years, there is no consistent answer.

And each year some with mid to late reports times end up missing the "cadet in the red sash" report.

There's really no way to game it, and I'm not sure there is an advantage one way or the other.

Actually, for 2015 there were some left of both on A-day, but sold out during the day. Point's valid though, if you want one, get it!

One thing you learn, most of the R-day items can be bought via phone or web. Parents just don't know from who/where. Cadet Store, Book Store, AOG, and DUSA are relatively easy. But there are others (Woman's club??) that are harder to find/access away from major events.

Some of it you have to see to appreciate. DW has found many trinkets she appreciated when seen in person! :)

Most of the swag we really like came from the cadet store, DUSA, Woman's club, and bookstore, in that order. (Plus the uniform factory Parka) AOG has some nice stuff, but tends to be more expensive.

While I recommend coming to both R-day and A-day weekend if you can, we found A-day weekend much less crowded for swag stuff. Especially if you can get there Friday or are there for Marchback. (Which I recommend as well)

Thanks for the heads up tug_boat -- very much appreciated!

Others have probably mentioned, but the time after the 90 second window was one of our favorite times at WP.

It's out of your hands now, biggest stress is being ready to get a bleacher seat to for the final parade and spot waldo. Enjoy the atmosphere, get your swag, explore.

At the end of the parade when the last candidates march through the big doors and they close you can almost hear them slam in your mind... it's a clear metaphor for your next few weeks.

USMA becomes quiet, parents walking to their car, look out across trophy point

Don't get in a rush. I'd go to R-day and Marchback just for fun if I could!
