Is it too late to join a sport?

I'm a junior in high school, and I just opened up an application to USNA a few days ago. I am ranked 7/455 in my class, got a 32 on the ACT, have loads of extracurriculars including NHS, student council, marching band, jazz band, symphony band, a job, student director in the school play, etc., but my athletic factor does not look good on paper. I am fit and run every day individually, but I only did cross country my freshman year.

I guess I have two questions. First, will a high CFA score help remedy my negligent athletics? Second, is it too late to try cross country again this fall?

Thank you.

You can only try. It might be hard to be a team captain if it's your first year (back) on the varsity team. At this point, you could only squeeze in 3 sports your senior year...assuming that would not interfere with more important activities. Doing well on your CFA can help make up a lack of sports. Home schoolers have this problem (no available sports). Just make sure to max it out.

Will the academy see my athletic participation in this summer and the coming school year? How well do non-athletic extracurriculars help out in the application process?

I did track and xc for the first time my senior year and I have received 2 appointments. Doing it late is better than having never done it at all.

Jayce is right on point! Furthermore, running XC will give you the advantage of improved endurance and stamina which will be helpful to you especially during PS. A general guide, USNA has specifically noted that it prefers athletic partici- pation. Also, quantity of ECA's does not ace quality thereof.
