Hey everyone,

I'm currently a sophomore in high school, and my goal is to attend the USMA at West Point for college. This is something I've wanted to do for 2-3 years, although I've been more seriously considering it during the past year. I've been on student council at school for the past two years, acting as VP freshman year and treasurer sopohmore year. I was also name Captain of the JV soccer team during my freshman year. My current weighted GPA is a 3.5 (with all honors classes except for math, in which I take a standard college-prep level class). Please tell me if that is high or low for my goal, because I am currently not sure where I stand in terms of academics. Next year I am taking two AP, or Advanced Placement (College Level) courses in History and English. There's more to my resume, but I won't clog this post with all of my info. If anyone wants to see, I'd be happy to post more info for some good feedback. Go Army!

Welcome! You are wise to begin thinking about what it takes to get into West Point and plan accordingly. My cadet will be graduating in 2 weeks and it's been an amazing journey.

Make sure you take advantage of the highest level of classes your school has to offer in which you could make an A or B. West Point is heavy on math, physics, chemistry, engineering--make sure you are prepared. Be sure and check out all of the "stickies" at the top of the USMA forum page. There is tons of helpful information there and timelines to help you plan.

The higher level classes are great to take. They look good and more importantly will help you get ready for the ACT/SAT and the Academy. I would work on getting your GPA a higher, though your ACT/SAT score should play a much higher part. You sound like you are on track when it comes to clubs, sports, and leadership.

Prepare to take both the SAT and ACT. I took the SAT twice, did well, and will attempt at least again in senior year to maximize my scores, yet West Point still wants me to take the ACT this fall (I'm a current junior). Entering my junior year I had planned to only take the SAT, so I wasn't expecting to adjust my plan to include the ACT as well. That's just one quick tidbit that I'd like to throw in.

I've always had strong interest in USMA, but never started asking questions until the spring of my junior year. You're already a great step ahead of many other future c/o 2020 candidates by beginning to ask questions. Good luck!
