Hello,

New member of the forum here. My DS is having problems receiving his TWIC. He started the process on 3/11/2014 and his background check was completed/approved on 4/22, but his card has still not been produced. It has now been over ten weeks since he initially enrolled. He has called the help desk number five times over the past couple of weeks and no one has been able to give him an estimate on when the card will be ready. Is anyone else having problems with getting their TWIC?

Thanks,
Ken

My son and I have both renewed our TWIC within the last few months and neither of us had any issues. I had my card in about 2 weeks and he had his in a little over a week. Of course we were both renewing, not getting an original card.

If you haven't already done so, I would check on the status on the TWIC website linked below.
https://universalenroll.dhs.gov/workflows?workflow=service-status

If you get no joy from that web query I would go in person to the enrollment center and talk to someone there about it.

Can't speak to FLorida, but no problems here in NJ. I would show up in person and see if you can shake it loose. DS received his card 2-3 weeks after his first appointment.

They make getting your TWIC before showing up for Indoc a big deal, but you'd be surprised at how many people don't have it when they report. The quicker the better, but it's certainly not something that will keep him from reporting when he's supposed to. I also just renewed my TWIC just this past month with no problems, but sometimes the wheels turn slowly.

Our DS went to pick up his TWIC and it could not be activated. It was not compatible with the new system. Took them 20 days to figure that out. They had to send it back and request another one. Let's hope that they get it right this time.

DS and I did TWIC (1st card) in person, enrollment and receipt/activation. No problems. Went to enrollment center in Philadelphia. We had scheduled an appointment but when we got there he walked right in with no wait.

For what it's worth, I have always found face-to-face to be much more effective than a phone call.

Thanks for all of the replies. We have confirmed that the TWIC is not at the enrollment center. According to the people we spoke with, the cards are produced in a centralized location by a third-party service provider and then sent to the enrollment center for activation. DS continues to check the web site daily and calls every other day to see if they have any updated information on the delivery of his card to the enrollment center.

Curious...where in FL did you process. Fort Lauderdale was quick and painless a few years ago, and I have a new student who is about to apply for his. Thanks for the heads up.

Key West. The problem is with the central card production facility, not the enrollment centers. Latest (6/13) offical word from the TWIC folks is that a 'systems issue' is causing a delay in card production - they are giving no estimates on delivery times at this point. DS has contacted KP and they are aware of the issue. Senator Rubio's office has also gotten involved in trying to assist DS. Was hoping that it would not take an 'Act of Congress' for DS to get his TWIC, but who knows at this point.
