BCT Squadron Assignments

We expect squadron assignments to be made for the incoming class sometime during the next week.

Please note, however, that you have to be done with your Appointee Kit to get your assignment. That means all the forms EXCEPT the "To Bring" list and the "Authorization to Travel". Those two forms won't become available until assignments are made.

Question for anyone:
According to Wikipedia, the web's best source of information, squadrons #30-40 are solely for C4Cs while #20-30 for C3Cs and so on. I thought that squadrons had a mix of all classes? Is Wikipedia right or am I? Thanks.

Squadrons have a hierarchy, thus need different classes present.
Wikipedia is only as good as the random person writing it...
 
The hierarchy that Ramius is referring to as described in the USAFA 2013-2014 Catalog:

"Integral to all aspects of military education is how cadets live and work in their daily activities. The cadet wing is organized into a military chain of command to mirror the organization of the rest of the Air Force. First-class cadet commanders and their cadet staffs command 40 squadrons of approximately 100 cadets each. Those commanders in turn report to four cadet group commanders who are led by the cadet wing commander, the cadet in charge of the entire cadet wing. Supervising these cadets are Air Officer Commanding (AOC), located in each squadron and group. These Air Force officers oversee all cadet activities, provide instruction, and serve as role models as the cadets experience firsthand the processes of command and organization to accomplish the mission. The Academy Military Training Noncommissioned Officer (AMT NCO) complements the AOC and provides an enlisted role model perspective. Across the wide spectrum of cadet activities, from meals in Mitchell Hall, to the intramural athletic fields, to living arrangements within the dorms, the organizational focus is on the squadron."

That's what I thought. It wouldn't make sense since squadron commanders have to be firsties. Wikipedia's method would cause 30 squadrons to be without commanders.

On our portal it says that the To Bring Checklist is due June 15, is this a typo because that portion of my portal is still locked? (I have completed all other appointee kit items)

The "To Bring" checklist should go live today for those that have completed all other forms and actions. Expect it to appear late in the day.

Squadron assignments still haven't been completed, so the decision was made to remove the report time from the To Bring checklist. The report time will be included on the "Authorization to Travel" letter.

Don't forget, BCT squadrons are not the same as those of the academic year, though there is a system to determine what squad you'll be in once the Ac Yr starts (beginning of August).
 
Yes I also would be interested in knowing how our academic squadrons are determined.
 
Woah now... confusing information here. Your flight in basic will be the freshmen of your academic year squadron. The 5 Agressors flights correspond to squads 1 through 5, the 5 Barbarians correspond to squads 6 through 10, and so on.

Just a little more clarity on the BCT squads vs ac year squads:

So let's say you're Barbarians for BCT. Once you know your flight (you won't until I-Day unless they change things) you can figure out your academic year squadron.

So,
Barbarians Alpha = Squadron 6
Barbarians Bravo = CS-07
Barbarians Charlie = CS-08
Barbarians Delta = CS-09
Barbarians Echo = CS-10
 
Within your BCT squadron there will be a number of "flights." Five? Your flight will be absorbed into your academic year squadron (with a new name - that was given to parents last year at I-day) at the Acceptance Day parade. At this parade each of the existing 40 squadron "picks up" their new Freshman/Doolies/C4Cs. Clear as mud? The takeaway is that your "flight" during BCT will remain together during the academic year . . . unless something changes.
 
A little more detail on BCT squadron organization:

Basics are assigned into 1 of 8 BCT squadrons or squads (A through H). Basics wear lanyards the color of their BCT squad for easy identification by cadre, WebGuy and parents (via WebGuy). Each of the 8 BCT squads consist of 5 flights (A through E) for a total of 40 BCT flights. Each of the 40 BCT flights feed into 1 of the 40 academic year squads aka cadet squadrons (CS):

At the successful conclusion of BCT, each Basic will move with the rest of the Basics in their BCT flight into the corresponding academic squad just as MountainMom said.
 
OH... The Jaguars are gone. Should have figured that since there are fewer incoming basics. My one twin was in Jaguars Flight c - so he went into CS39, and his bro was Cobra, B flight, and he was in TIGER TEN.
 
Right. Insufficient cadre to staff either Interceptors or Jaguars last year and this year. So more flights per remaining squads.
 
Fencersmother, not fewer incoming, but fewer in the upper classes so less cadre to run BCT. Mine will be cadre for Guts, no Guts, no Glory!!
 
Our DS is cadre for Hellcats Flight E which is CS-40. He was a Hellcat as a Basic as well.
